Might be a long shot as its a pc forum, but someone might be able to help putting a car audio lead together.

I want to build something like this:
    http://ipodcarparts.com/alpine-mbus-ipod-cable-p-88.html

I have been told its possible using a firewire cable, but cant find the pin out of either of the connections (ipod dock connector and alpine mbus)

Am i right in asuming that its possible to change ipod track with the head unit controlls using the cable in that link?

Any input welcome, but buy that cable or buy a ai-net headunit!

That looks to me just like a cable which enables you to use the aux in of the changer in put , I can't see the differeance between that and a 3.5mm jack plug - two phono plugs into the back of your head unit. Then get an m-bus plug lead , cut one end off and figure out which is left and right audio and ground

    iPod Dock pinout

    Alpine Mbus 411 (links)

Sorry, not an iPod person myself, but it seems I've run across several dock projects, I just haven't kept track of where they were. Beyond a good Google, I'd check Hackaday and the Make as well.

That is the site I used to create my first cable, it lets you carge the iPod while it is plugged in and it also has direct line out to the stereo. THis also turns off the iPod once power is cut to the cable.

No theres no way for that.
if you want rack controls you have 2 options
    1 by an lcd remote,
2 upgrade to an AInet equipted HU.

sorry, i always get confused between AI-Net and M-Bus. I think there is an adapter that lets you use one with the other, but a DIY solution is probably available.

edit: actually the adapter I made will also work with the M-Bus, all you need is the M-Bus to RCA adapter instead of the AI-Net ot RCA adapter

There is but you need to know how to program to do that e.g.
    youll need a processor to
1 detect ipod and put in comunication mode,
2 recive mbus commands and issue ipod command.
Although it is possible, you need to know how to program the cpu.
