For the record, I want to state that all I can see when I look at that is "King of the Cosmos" from Katamari Damacy. :)

It looks like a display stand for a wrist watch - with the Dell logo as the face of the watch.

I hope no-one else follows suit...

I think this is really just a concept...but it does look quite cool.

edit:/look at those brand logos on the cartriges: Sony(slot-drive), ATI(graphics card?) and Western Digital(HDD)^^ interesting idea those thingys...

It looks quite cool as a "concept" but if it was real, which is doubtful, it would look awful, the design and the idea of peripherals is a terrible one, and it resembles an old cylinder juke box that were avalible a few years ago, in the UK at least.
But in all the idea is one hell of a runt and the design is just over use of the designers' "imagination" and I can't believe this came from the same man as the Alienware case.
But Alienware cases are showing their age... e.g. no aluminum or metallic models...
I hope this never comes to fruition...

I thought that was what IBM (and Apple before them) came up with - plug-in everything, just a small screwdriver may be required.

Can I say 'Heat issues'? :nono:

If it's not ATX then I'm just wondering what type of mobo will reside inside. Custum sized pcb perhaps?

in a simple way, it sucks. in a more complex way, my cousin saw it and shouts OMG WTF IS THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE A CD PLAYER FROM JVC.
the modularity is nice, this way you can change the graphics card to something less powerfull and more economic and when you need it put something more substantial.

Perhaps Dell's most proprietary conception yet. Looks cool nonetheless. If it hot-swapped I'd buy one as a server.

Someone needs to get his facts straight...

    1. Matthew Ritter isn't of Alienware fame. He's of Fisher Price fame.
    2. This is not a Dell design, nor is it a design that Dell has even come remotely close to endorsing, much less putting into production. In fact, Dell wants to sue him now for unauthorized use of their logos.
...But I guess that, had you known this ahead of time, you wouldn't have made a story about the "Dell XCS" -- and even if you had, you would have dismissed this for the piece of junk that it is instead of embracing it as the "future of computing."

    Temper, temper...
Since when is a purely conceptual design a "piece of junk"? It is not real. It's a concept. And nowhere did we embrace it as "the future of computing".

We always welcome corrections or additional information, however. Especially when presented in a light-hearted, friendly manner. :D
