I've been searching for god knows how long and i can't seem to find it. I remember someone here having wanted something similar for a background image but i can't find that thread either... Does anyone know where i might find high-res satelite images of earth? I remember that the site the other poster was pointed to was an official NASA-page listing huge images of the entire globe in the different months of the year. There was also other images like topography and such... I'd very much like that site. Please, please, please help.
Just to warn you, it's impossible to join the largest-resolution one together to make one giant image. I tried. And I've got two gigs of ram and a dual-core. Apparently having a 15GB scratch disk isn't enough for a, 86,400x43,200 (3.7GB, about 11GB as a .psd) image... in fact not even enough to open up one of the eighth-sized segments and get it on the clipboard. I was lucky to even get it to make a blank canvas that big. I did the math though... at the ~100dpi of my monitor, I'd need a 900"x468" screen to show it 1:1. 75x39 feet Even at a much nicer 300dpi, you'll still cover a pretty decent-sized wall Hmm... if only photoshop would let me use mapped network drives as scratch disks... I'd have 600+gb to work with. What a pity. Now take that puppy and rasterbate it to cover... uhh... the state of Vermont

I don't even have enough HDD space to DL the 500m/pixel version. If I did, I am pretty sure my PC would explode and cause a nice little black-hole if I so much as single-clicked the file to rename it to "huge-a$$ pic of the earth"
Once I have the HDD space (need to get an external bay for my 2.5" as have laptop at the moment) I willl download the high res version, burn it to a DVD and take it into a print shop and ask for them to print it, I wonder if it will crash thier PCs?
I'm really struggling with the hi-res ones... I've stcitched about 70% of it together, but my PC is not liking it one bit!! I've got the HD space, but my god it's getting slow now. It's been loading the image from when I last worked on it for 20 minutes now! It's far too big to be a PSD file now, it's gotta be a Large Image Format file (.psb). I'm determined to get it all stitched together so I can put it on a DVD and get it printed... just to see their faces when they see the size of the samned thing.
If I get it done without my PC exploding, I'll get it put up somewhere where everyone can grab a copy.
