Good to hear, but I was a bit confused about the Intel Core 2 Duo bit.

It says that the E6400 or whatever it was outperforms the 4600+ and even the 5000+ except in multi-tasking, but is cheaper than the 5000+ by almost $75. So which is the better buy? A 5000+ or a E6400?

ISTR reading on dailytech that the prices released earlier were distributor prices whereas these new ones are retail prices hence the PIB price heading in the table. Can anyone from bit-tech HQ confirm?

If you're doing a lot of multi tasking, the 5000+. If just looking for a dual core, the Conroe.

Really depends on what you're using it for. Overall, I'd say the 6400 is a better deal for the money, but I'm still getting a 5000+*.

*If I can find someone other than Monarch to buy from.... $80 markup?? insane.

Has anyone seen any indications that the prices on the FX-60 are going to drop? I currently have a 939 board that I wouldn't mind hanging onto a few years with a single core 4000+ currently installed. What should I spend my money on if I want to keep the same board?

Well, the Core 2 Duo E6400 is faster than the 5000+ in most multi-threaded tests, but with TWO tasks running at once, the 5000+ was faster.

All of the results are here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/07/14/intel_core_2_duo_processors/1.html

That seems the only major flaw in conroe, it doesn't exectly multi-task well, what about all those people who like to play games while encoding a DVD ? I don't think the review cover'd (thinking off teh top of my head here) maybe it woudl be an idea to see what preforms better clock for clock encoding a DVD while playing a game ? Would deffinately be interesting to see what woudl come out on top...

Any info on what this means to us brits? I've noticed the X2 3800 on sale for as low as £117 on OcUK. Can we expect the prices to go below that once all the other stores catch on. It would be fantastic if it could drop below £100

ARGH! SO CONFUSED... Conroe (I'd have to upgrade mobo&rRAM and GPU) or new X2 (+new mobo and GPU) ?

Meh, what kind of idiot was in charge? $301 for the top-end chip? Absolute moron who obviously never passed a grade-school marketing class. Take just two bucks off of that and they'd sell twice as many.

So how do these translate into UK prices? I am looking at Scan's prices and bar the 3000+ and 3200+ single core chips, the prices don't seem to have changed since last week.
