[PHOTO] Classic water on metal shot

It started raining today and with the new theme as water/liquid in mind, I thought i'd go out and get some shots done.

This is the classic 'Water Droplets on Metal' shot that has been done to death, but needs to be done none-the-less.

What d'ya think?

Does anybody notice that colours display different on FF over IE or Safari? On my Macbook it does... it's Very noticeable too.

I have done a screen capture of my desktop showing the difference between Safari, Firefox beta 2 and the native photo... it's 1.5MB grab it here..

Is this normal? Is the same on WinXP machines?

in FF and IE with XP it looks like the middle one from your screen shot. Side lighting is also good for making the droplets pop. Also sometimes forums will mess up the color if they have a built-ing resize feature, or sometimes for no reason at all. I don't think that's the case here, as your exif is still intact.

 

Sweet, nice clean picture!! I wish I could find my camera, rooms such a mess atm and I have no idea where it is!!


BTW, it looks fine in both IE and FF over here (Win XP 64)

 

on your screenshots, the one on the top right is the one i see here (running FF and XP)

 

no no, the standard colour space for print might be Adobe RGB, but for display purposes and portability, it's sRGB. lots of software desn't support the ARGB colour space, and renders the colours dull.

really the best thing to do is use adobe save for web function, which sets the colour space to whatever is most suitable (i forget now)

I thought I read somwhere that Firefox didn't support color spaces embeded into jpegs. Not really sure, as the concept of color spaces are still a little fuzzy in my mind. I know I use sRGB. The Adobe RGB is larger, but as Fod mentioned, it's less widely supported, and the photo lab i use (which does very high quality work), perfers sRGB because even the sRGB gamut is larger then what their printers can print.

 

hmm.. it seems i'd be better doing some testing with colour spaces. Thanks for the info guys

I rarely ever use a different lens!

 

yeah, it's my 50mm f1.4

although to be honest, I don't use it as often as I would like, my 10-22mm is usually the one stuck to the front of my body most of the time and the 18-55mm kit lens has been relegated to the kit bag... i'm now thinking of getting the 24-70mm f2.8 L lens, but at £900, I think i'll wait until I take a trip to HK.

I've also just done some testing on a winxp machine with both IE and FF and I can say that they both render the colours the same, but still different from what comes out of my post-proc. app. and what I see on my Mac.
(it's the middle one from the test.tiff).

edit: just done some testing with different profiles and different formats and I still can't get the colours to match up to what comes out of Aperture or Photoshop on my mac. I'm using sRGB on everything, camera, CS2, aperture, save profiles...
