I gotta question the use of the word politicians there Mr. Thomas, I know they technically are, but..it'd be kinda like calling Nick Griffin(Leader of the BNP) a statesman.

Apart from that, this story is utterly kick ass. The RIAA lot had a bit of a win with TPB being taken down(even it it was brought back up quickly afterward). This is a bit of a poke in the eye for 'em. I think it won't do massively well though. So long as open easy, free, P2P exists and only a tiny minority of users are getting hit by fines etc., then people will keep using open, easy, free P2P.

Pepople really do seem to be giving the RIAA the old two fingered salute today.
I like to think of this as punishment for them continuing to sue a dead chap and his family. :thumb:

What is the legality of this in the UK? I'm assuming it's a big nono?

A lawyer will know for sure, but as far as I'm aware there is no present uk law that states you cannot browse the internet anonymously.

In fact there are many, many companies in the uk that use vpn connections, and I can't see how this would legally be any different.

I would actually consider using this if there was no difference in speed as they state, but I cannot see how they can do this at such a low cost as vpn connections are expensive.

    EDIT #1

That's not a great start! :duh:

    EDIT #2

They might well have just said "Give false details when signing up"... :hehe:

Funny that, that's exactly what I was thinking :D

it looks like they're having a few teething issues, but I will more than likely sign up when they're more established

The worry I have is that with increased popularity, this service will end up like many of the anonymous proxy services that have been and gone. They start of great, then the speeds grind to a hault.

I'm lovin this. With all the trouble I go through with firewalls, proxies, and encryption, this seems like a dream! Once this is up and running better I'm definately going to try to sign up. If I can't get it due to legal reasons, I'll just move to sweden....;) (maybe)

I think this is a bad idea, unless you've got something to hide?

    I think it's wonderful!

Doubt I'd sign up, and I also have concerns about bandwidth issues as the service becomed popular, but I really hope they can make it work. If this does work I can see other ISPs developing similar services. For them being asked to monitor user's traffic is being between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand they may be in trouble with the local authorities if the refuse, but at a minimum they are likley to loose a paying customer, and perhaps many customers, if they comply. Hopefully we're seeing the start of a new trend!

What about them? This doesn't hide anything on the net, just doesn't keep a record of what users visit. The kiddie porn sites will still be there weather this service exists or not.

P.S. How do you rate a custom user title at 215 posts???

Yep... all the stuff I would like to download. My search data. My web surfing habits. They are personal.

Do you go take a shower in the middle of a street because you have nothing to hide?

Well, I think robbybertu15 was referring to the idea that the paedophiles would be able to skulk around the seedy side of the web untraced. I suppose it's a legitimate concern.

The custom use title is not not so much user-custom as it is admin-custom. If I remember, it has something to do about him panhandling a while back.

My privacy for one. I don't have anything to hide but I'm a firm believer of privacy rights of the individual. My government (or any world superpower who's arse they kiss) doesn't need to know that I look at bit-tech more than is good for my health.

By being over-intrusive, certain countries have developed a world problem that seems to justify them needing to be so intrusive. But this rant belongs elsewhere so I wont say more.
