    fantastic paint job

i have to ask why your sister wants a massive fan front thing .... surely that's not something that interests women

I also had that case at 1 point (well not THAT case, and the model i had only had 1 fan on the back and 2 on the front, with 1 in the side) funnily enough, its also my sisters now o_O

It was meant to be a surprise so i got to plan out the case as well, but she has seen it and she likes the design

    Back slot covers painted black.

Rear 80mm fans and mesh cut to shape. Hasn't been cleaned yet.

    Mesh hot glued in place.

All the components and case ready to be installed.

The system installed in the chassis.

The front 90mm fans installed I haven't attached the cones yet as I'm not sure what I will be using.

I started the painting on the case panels. Sorry about the pictures, the panels seem to look blotchy in all the photos but they arent. For example the bare metal is perfectly even and all looks uniform.

    Sanded back to bare metal.

Sprayed with 1 coat of metal primer.

    2nd coat of metal primer.

First light coat of metallic blue.

    3rd coat of metallic blue.

The blue is pretty good looking, and it doesnt look patchy like in the photos, it still needs another coat or two though.

    Another coat on the panels.

Just fixed up a few little problems with bondo.

    And sanded down.

Taped up a piece of clear plex for the window (the blue paint is to mark which corner to measure from)

I wired up the front fans, I spliced into the power line from the CCFL that is going in there.

I didnt have any buttons that fit in with the case. So I decided to mold some in.

    The Power Button.

    The Stealthed DVD RW Button.

Then I put down a coat of filler primer.

Then a light coat of the metallic blue. (or Sparkley Blue hence the name) Thats only a light coat but it has come up well already. I will do 2 - 4 more coats. I'm also thinking of spraying the inside of the tubes, the inner part of the drive spaces, and the whole back of the bezel flat black to blend in with the case theme a bit better and for a more professional look.

You might check out a supermarket or whatever for some deodorant cans. Some of them may have some nice cone-ish shapes for the fans.

This is starting to take shape nicely!! :)

I really lke your bondo work and after doing something similar recently on my HTPC mod, I can appreciate how difficult it often is to get it working and looking good.

    kudos! :)

I just realized the last update didn't include any pics of the case painted and assembled, so you guys still haven't seen it :? woops. They're in this update :p

    Ok first off the window.

The bottom bar was quickly shot over with the blue when I realised you could see it through the window.

The window plex with masking removed and cleaned, the industrial double sided tape I'm using to attach it with, the panel, and yeah you guessed it, scissors to cut the tape

    Tape applied.

Window in, you can't really see it.

    Applique I'm putting in.

Removed the top layer with a bit of difficulty and stuck it on, start with one edge and slowly stick it down and get out all the bubbles using the blue thing you get with it.

Peel back the other layer as close to the surface as you can.

    Applique Done!

Drive Bay covers (with moulded buttons) primed.

Painted black and blue, now the button reassembly, it all just pops together nicely.

    Installed.

    Drive opened.

You can see under the drive that I have hot glued in a few styrene sheets (bought from a model shop), to mount the button to. The moulded button bay cover goes over this and when the moulded button is pressed it switches this button.

Finished shot of the stealthed drive and moulded buttons. Notice how the inside of the blowholes and inside area of the drive bays were painted flat black to continue the theme of the inside of the case.

And a few overall shots of the case assembled and nearly complete (just need to do the cable sleeving). I will get some good shots with a white backdrop and tripod once its fully complete.
