Cooler master sells a radial fan arrangement they call a "crossflow" fan. I want to try something like that to cool my motherboard, including the bottom. Here's a Linky

I can't find one. Has anybody seen anything like it?

Well, you could try to order it off that site, when stock's back. Or visit a local store that sells Coolermaster, and hope they can special order it in.

Other than that, I haven't seen these types of fans before. I know there's those giant tower fans that use the same design (but they're for cooling people, not computers), and a lot of GPU fans use the same principle.

Perhaps you can make your own if it all fails. It's really just a long strip of blades attached to some sort of motor.

I can find places to buy the Cooler Master fan. However, it's size doesn't fit my application very well; too long. OTOH, silverstone sells something similar that too small. Seems like there must be a vendor for these...

They are powerful for their size, but not quiet. Keep that in mind...

I think that a gang or 120 mm's would be more effective.

Rubbish! The point of the crossflow is that it directs a stream of air above and below the whole mobo. It made a huge impact on my temps. The thing about your post is that you say "a gang of 120 mm's" - well, how many do you mean? Sure, 50 would be more effective than a crossflow, but they'd probably be a _bit_ louder ^_^. For the CFM the crossflow is the most effective solution to cooling a whole motherboard (by which I mean, the CFM is used maximally because almost all the air is directed exactly where it is needed.

I wouldn't bother to be honest, if you've got space left for 120mm fans, they tend to be better. If you really want one, froogle.us/froogle.com should sort you out nice and easy.

    OFF 0 r.p.m 0 dB (OFF) 0 CFM - 0 r.p.m
    LOW 1400 r.p.m ( 6.5 V ) 22 dB (LOW) 25 CFM - 1400 r.p.m
    MIDDLE 1800 r.p.m ( 8.5 V ) 30 dB (MIDDLE) 32 CFM - 1800 r.p.m
    HIGH 2500 r.p.m ( 12 V ) 38 dB (HIGH) 46 CFM - 2500 r.p.m

One good 120 mm aimed well and even using a vent to spread air over a longer area would be quiter and mor eeffective. Mount one behind the mobo between the mobo tray and case side and you could cool it. I see no reason. But If you still like to. Those stats don't impress.

I've got plenty of 120's. I just don;t have any of them cooling the bottom of the mb.

I'm reluctant to "dremelize" the mb tray. Not out of the question, though

I have found that the crossflow has made a significant impact in my rig, turning it off raises the temps by a fair amount so it's on a permanent on position in the case.

I can't comment on noise but if Nexxo says its noisy it probably is but personally I would reccoment is since it doesn't use that much space since it's relatively slim.

Google "crossflow blower" for lists of LOADS of suppliers. It's nothing special - been available in it's native form for decades.

If those specs are right then a 120 can move more air with less noise there are many 120mm rated for close to 100 CFM at 35dB. But if that is all the space http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q...-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=wf
But i would have to agree on the 120mm being the better solution

its treu the crosfan works real nice :D
only it has 2 drawback's in max fan speed you can defnitly know it is blowing.
in the lowspeeds berly hear it. and it cools djust as fine as in max.

and second the smal fan blades holds lots of dust in a short time space. so cleaning it often ore a filter. is a good idee :thumb:
