You really should find a decent sized room for your gear, so you can get your room back. It's a study with a bed in it at the moment.

Hey everyone. I have been inactive here on bit-tech for a while. Life has been SOOOOOO busy. I have been working a lot and I was just on tour in St. Louis. I finally had a day off today, and I spent some money. I bought a 42" DLP (samsung)....it is a work of art. And about a month ago I purchased a car audio system. I will be posting some pics soon.

    HEY ALL!!

I am back after a significant disappearance. I just had a really busy year with 2 jobs, going to school, dealing with roommates and not much sleep.

So the big news is that I moved out of the house you last saw. I couldn't deal with the roommates (good friend do not always make good roommates). But in the meantime, I bought a house. Its a much better investment than rent (if you plan on staying put). This means that I will be staying this time (haha).

With the house I can make it my own and expand for all of my stuff. I actually had a lot more than was set up. I can also run network cables around the house (in the walls) and not piss anyone off...

So right now I am only going to show you my office which has been set up. It took me a while to find my camera so there are not any process pics. However, I will soon post pictures of the rest of the house.

On with the pics. Sorry if some are blurry my tripod is lent out.

This is a wide shot of the new desk in a U. I custom built the shelf that the CRTs and stuff are on.

This is the left of the desk. Not too much exciting.

    My main PC.

The right side of my desk with my A/V setup. And yes that IS a laser disk player.

A little wider shot of the A/V corner.

A shelf with some books, parts and such-same in the drawers. Mostly cables and adapters.

Another shelf--this one has more parts and a few tools I like to have around. Most of my tools are in cases to take them to do work around the city. Also the closet. The doors are upstairs. I am putting shelves and stuff in there so I am holding off on the doors.

And the super exciting shot of my electrics tool case. Has all kinds of goodies (like a drawer full of fun Square D stuff)

And last for today is my network center, etc. This is in the basement and is still somewhat a work in progress. My phone line enters here and my modem, smoothwall server and patch panel are here. Each room has at least 1 cat5e run. My office has 4. The funny split thing on the patch panel is my audio feed over cat5 to speakers around the house.

I hope this is a fun update and I will have more.

    Peace,
    Nick

Think I'd just have a powerful system and virtualise the rest. Each to his own.

Hope electricity is cheaper in the US than it is here in the UK tho!

Well I have realized that it looks like it is a lot more power than there actually is. I do have everything on one 15A circuit and have no problem, even when I solder and use a heat gun.

Looks like a bit of geekish overkill going on there.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use the same machine? :blah:

Well, yes of course there is a bit of geekishness... :geek:

However, I like having all of my music, movies, and TV shows on servers for two reasons; I like to leave the resources of my main PCs to do things like rendering and compiling. Also, If I am working on my main PCs (physically) I still like to watch TV or listen to music.

The same reason is for all of the test boxes. I like to be able to mess around with linux and windows tweaks while keeping my main PCs up in their main OS for their stuff.

Downloading has its own PC for obvious reasons I think.

SO there is a purpose, but yes it is a bit of overkill because I can.

if i were you i'd go some uber multicore goodness, but that's mainly due to space constraints... but you seem to have plenty of that, so lots of pcs = goodness ;D

:jawdrop: Too many screens! Nice network setup though.

I have my media center, http server, download server and file server all on the same machine (different components on different drives) but they are all on the same machine nonetheless. Space restrictions and electricity are reasons. But personally I would find all these screens and puters a bit of a clutter.

Looks like you have the space though, can't wait for my own house!

P.S. which one is your porn server?
