Just got my new Silverstone case today in the mail. About a 2 week wait from Newegg ... I am in Germany so it took a little bit of extra time.

The reason I got a new case is because my current case is a tower with a door and I have it in my media rack on its side ... so I have to prop the door open and then put in the CD vertically. I will never get another case with a door ... they suck.

    Project goals:
    - Make the back panel have 2x80mm fans
    - Have 2x120mm intake fans
    - Make an expanded hardrive rack
    - Add a card reader

    The case opened up:

The case taken apart. You think the 120mm fans with be ok mounted on the bottom like that?:

    Some cool thumbscrews:

Had to cut off the middle support bar to fit the 2x80mm fans in the back:

After a lot of broken cutting wheels I have a new cover for the back.

Cutting out the old fan mounts:

JBwelding the new 80mm fan mount plate on:

Now it is time for bed ... I will be cutting out the holes for the 80mm fans and 120mm fans tommorow.

    An Update

I didn't quite finish everything I wanted to today. I cut the holes for the 80mm fans, I just need to clean them up some more. Well here is the progress:

    Yet another update

Well after a lot of contemplation of where to put the intake fans, I decided to stick with my original plan of mounting them to the bottom. I think this will be best option to keep my system quiet.

My cool cordless drill and the first holes made.

I am getting quite good at using a dremel ...

Originally I was going to make my own harddrive rack but I don't think it will offer enough benefit .... instead I will add a fan to the current harddrive setup. Here is a picture of the cut I have to make. The black line is where the fan will go and the red is where I am going to cut ... woops ... put the black line over the red at the bottom ... oh well... hopefully it makes sense.

Mine is cooler. :p The bottom was a good choice, no need to mess up the front with grills and stuff.

Oh, I am not planning on modding the front at all ... It is just too nice ... and you can't tell from the pictures but it is really thick aluminum which would be a pain to cut. I was thinking of attaching the 120mm fans to the top or on the side.

This is a very nice case ... after a few mods :dremel:

    All finished

    Here was my old case.

All my parts transfered to my nice new case ... with a bit of cable management looks nice.

And all closed up and ready to be used:

Next on my agenda is to use that grey box you see on the bottom shelf in the first picture as a file server case .... I will just take the motherboard tray from the case I am not using ... should be sweet.
