There's no need to be an ass, if you don't like someones thread ignore it, don't flame them. Anyway Metatron, most people seem to either just sell old PSU's on or keep them for when they build other computers. I'd reccomend doing one of the two
use it to power a ccfl or led lamp or use it to run any car accessory in house (they're all 12vt). for instance, you could put a cigarette lighter plug on it and plug in your phones charger, neons, Ipod fm transmitter, etc.
Either keep it as a spare or testing powersupply, or turn it into a bench power unit that you can use to test and power other devices or things you are working on. You can find info on turning it into a bench psu here at: > Link <
Or let it collect dust and nostalgia in a box full of similar components with no place to go, dreaming of a day when its dusty circuits will once again pulse with AC converted to DC and happily thinking about its reminiscent days of power network - connected yore. Or in the words of the Beatles: "Let it be."
i have an old psu and like alot of people say use it to test stuff like fans and led creations i cut some of the wires and added crocodile clips
sorry im a total noob and i was wondering how would you get a psu to start without connecting it to a motherboard
I bought a 12V green LED light strip made for cars and use it above my keyboard (2 sided taped to desk over keyboard drawer). I'm using an old AT PSU to power that (and test fans etc.). I like the idea (from one of the links) of modding in a lighter socket though as per your sig: This is a "Dremel" (link)
I have a number of sealed beam car headlights 60/55W (replaced with headlights with halogen inserts 100/120W). i will be using some old psu's with the headlights to make worklights for the shed.
to power it w/o the mobo. its the green wire to any black. GREEN TO BLACK. if you kill your self its not my fault.
