Im about to buy a 802.11 wireless PCMIA card, but I dont get it. Theres 802.11b 802.11g 802.11n whats better? and can they all access each other, or are they specific? I want to get one compatible with my school network. Edit: I remembered my school network is 2.4ghz which makes it ehier B or G maybe N but doubtfull. I found this card: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=WG511TNAR-R&cat=NET Usefull?
802.11g is the fastest standard out n hasnt been ratified yet (to the best of my knowledge) there for its not in its final state. best bet is to go with 802.11g it will work with 802.11b. 802.11n is supposed to work with g and b but like i said it isnt in its final state and things could change. go with G
11g is backwards compatible with 11b so an 11g card will work with an 11b access point and vice versa. 802.11n isn't a formally ratified standard yet and isn't expected to be until mid-next year so personally I'd avoid any "pre-N" products on the basis that they'll probably end up only being compatible with each other. Certainly should do. G is the best standard to go for imho - no-one really needs the mega speed boost of N, and in a relatively small, new, house you don't get many signal problems anyway. The biggest problem N will have for adoption is that it's not actually compatible with G or B, in fact it's disruptive. I certainly won't be buying it for a good few years.
