I have about 500$ and want to upgrade my current setup

    Opteron 165@2.5GHz stock cooling
    DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
    2x512mb BH-5
    6800GT @ 450/1200 with VF900-CU
    80g sata hd
    Audigy2ZS
    PCP@C 510W SLI
    All in a Thermaltake Soprano

I was wondering what are some of the options I could get right now

My idea was to get a 8800GTS and a new heatsink for my Opteron so i could oc it some more, but would I be to CPU limited for an 8800GTS?
If the 8800GS is a viable option what would be the best brand? and what would be the best air cooler for it? also what would be the best heatsink for my Opty 165?

Well on my 939 rig i have a Artic Cooling 64 pro. The thing is quiet and keeps my 4400 x2 running under 40 at 2.5ghz with this great hot florida weather(AC off). As for getting ram and a GTS doubtfull. I bought 2gbs of Ballistix for 200$ and that was the cheapest OCable ram i could find. I cant find 8800 for under 400$ so that and ram there is no way at 500$. My suggestion would be buy ram and a better cooler then save the rest and get whatever the next gen DX10 card is.

My plan is now to get the 8800GTS and sell off my old GPU and I should then have enough for 2gb of ram, and I should have another 100-200mhz that i can overclock and not get to hot

Get an 8800GTS, and an aditional 1gb of ram or a 2x1 kit, then you should be set for another few years.

if you bought that you'd probably only end up wishing you'd bought the GTS. you get better iq with the 8800's, they can do hrd and aa.. plus for what its worth you get dx10 of course
