I am going to be playing games and stuff like bf2142 but i dont know if the 6300 will be enough for me? any one got any comments.
Also, if you could tell us what resolution you'll be playing games at, what video card your playing it on and the rest of the system specs. It's important that you know that unless your playing at a resolution higher than 1600X1200 with all the pretty colors turned on with an 8800GTX then your not going to be using the card's full potential anyway. As far as the Processor goes, the main problem is it limits the graphics card at high resolutions, but unless your playing high res games (higher than 1600X1200) it shouldn't make any difference.
If you have an 8800GTX then youre quite possibl;y going to need an E6700, maybe even a QX6700 or you'll likely bottleneck your GFX card. Anything under and you ought to be fine an E6300, they're a great CPU with massive OC potential as highland3r has shown us =)
my specs i am building a complete system if you havent seen the rest of my post but anyways heres what im lookin at. a c2d low end 180-220 high end above 300 a mbo for the c2d probably the gigabyte GA-965P-S3 1GB of corsair ddr2 675 ram $103 80Gb sata 2 hard drive western digital $47.90 xfx geforce 7900GS 256MB card pci-e $179.99 500watt powersupply $51.99
what im going to be using im going to be playing on either crt maybe from 16" to a 18 or 19" or later on i may get a lcd around the same size. ummm ill problably be running everything at around 1280 X 800 or less.
If that's the case then you should be absolutely fine with an e6300. It will provide more than enough headroom with that setup. If you can, you may want to spend a little more on the memory and go with ddr2 800 instead. Don't know if your overclocking or not, but this would definately be money well spent.
A e6300 is a neat little cpu, i agree with kenco, 2gb is almost a must with BF games, mine gets eaten in BF2 and i have 2GB Sam
completely slipped my mind about the amount of ram. 2Gig is definately a must for sleek level loading and smooth gameplay.
about my system well im just trying to get this thing up and running first but later on im going to get another gig of ram and that is a good deal on that ram counting on at newegg its 144 instead of 103. Im thinking bout ocing the cpu alittle but im new to overclocking and it will be the end of this month before i can get the rest of the money to finish the system up.
well if you're new to OC Highland3r has a wonderful thread on the hardware forums that you can take a peeky at, and im sure he could answer any questions you might have. And we're also here to help, I myself and i'm sure many, many others have OC experience! the E6300 is the perfect choice, 2GB of ram isnt always a necessity! but sometimes just 1GB can peek and cause little bumps in the game that are unfavourable.
Get the system built mate, have a play and see when you get to off your own back. If you've got any queries just post and someone will help you out. It's better for you to have a go yourself first, then ask questions if you get stuck. Should help you learn what various settings do, rather than someone saying "set X to Y and Z to A". You should be able to get 3ghz from a 6300 fairly easily, especially with that motherboard and some 6400 ram (though 5400 should still get you 3ghz you'll be heavily overclocking the memory)
If you plan on playing games you might want to try to get a better gfx card. All depends on what screen (ie, what resolution) you're planning to play at? And a budget would be useful for us to suggest the best for the price. I'd be looking for the following spec as a minimum for 2142 etc. Inter E6300 Decent mobo like the Gigabyte you mention 2GB PC2 6400 mem (# G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail # Model #: F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ # Item #: N82E16820231098) The last main thing is gfx and that's really down to how much you can spend. I think 7950GTs are a good price atm. Any cheap-ass case will likely do, as long as it has decent cooling. 120mm fan mounts are a good thing to look for. And lastly, don't skimp on the PSU. Get one from Seasonic, Corsair, Tagan etc rather than some cheap crap that comes with a case, even if it does say its 500W.
Ok heres the setup Ok for everyone to know heres the pretty much my plan at the final setup of this pc. as for the budget i want to stay under 700 dollars and rite now its close to that. Total is $694.77 E6300 c2d processor $185.90 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80858 1GB of corsair xms ddr2 675 (pc 5400) (may get more later) $106.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85016-13 Geforce 7900GS from XFX $179.99 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321091 80GB hard drive (will prolly get bigger 1 lata) $47.90 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101206-1 Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 $118.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017 500watt psu from xclio or a Ultra (ive had experince in ultra and they perform pretty good for the price) 55.99 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=373044 heres what my case looks like (sorry but camera and lighting isnt best in the house)
if you are looking to overclock your e6300 here is a really nice, well explained (considering its length) guide: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Core2Duo-Overclocking-Guide-v1-ftopict197995.html I have the same mobo you are buying and from the guide above just follow the same things it says for ds3 configuration there isnt much difference between the two.
