Electronics psu wiring

    what type of wire should i purchase for making my own power connections from the psu? going to tidy up everything so i have no excess cabling cluttering my system up.

    I think 18awg should suffice for most applications, perhaps 16awg for longer runs or higher loads.

    You could technically use 20 awg too.

    i would buy 16 and 18.

    from your psu you want a minimum of 16, anything after that can be 18

    18 seems to be what most psu's use anyways

    arg, im having real trouble finding the type of wire i need :( farnell and rs are all very well if you have a model number, but im finding awg doesnt seem to be in wide use as a measurement?

    can anyone give me a pointer as to what i need in the uk?

    Rapid do one range of AWG sizes if you're buying full reels. Check the ATX12V power supply spec, the recommended sizes vary slightly with PSU rating IIRC
    Thinner wires are also allowed on the floppy power connectors. If you're just doing the 4-pin molex, they're 18G.

    Search RS/Farnell for 'UL 1007', that's the stuff AFAIK.
