    Thanks all!

    Assembly, part four

I’ve adopted a slightly different tactic. I’m trying to finish my Samurize config by the time the case is assembled. I still have a lot of work to do on the config, so I’m putting some more time into that.
As for the case: it’s all coming together nicely, all the holes are right where they need to be, all the pieces fit as they should and optically, it’s 100% what I wanted.

I’ve got some pics for you as well…

I put the Aquatube in. It’s so perfect for the industrial theme of the case, look at all those bolts and the black rubber ring. The plexi is a bit damped, because I blew out a few small bits after I put on the lid…
    [IMG]

The backside of the Aquatube with the support I made for it. I know it’s overkill, but it just didn’t look right without it.

The fillport then. When I put this in, I took a step or two back and looked at it, I just stood there for about 10 minutes. This is the *best* looking bit of the whole case. Period.

It comes a tiny bit higher than the black alu, but only the rounded off bit, so it just belongs there. It was a good decision to strip off the black finish of the top, it was also a good decision not to strip it off elsewhere, now there’s that nice black ring. The global look of the top panel, the plexi, the black alu, the logo and the fillport is one of the most rewarding moments and things of all the work I’ve put in this case.

Inside the case, you can see why the top-most fitting on the Aquatube is there. A small piece of tubing will run to it from the fillport to fill the system. I hope I can make the bend. Oh yeah, the fittings are perfectly aligned, another job well done. I’m telling you, I love that fillport :hip:

Then I started on putting all the switches etc on the bottom panel. At the moment, it’s a mess…even my camera didn’t like it cause I didn’t make a single sharp pic. Sorry for the blur.

Before I put it in the case, I want to have the nearby things ready to be put in as well so I can quickly separate and guide the wiring. Here’s the plate that holds the pump. I want the pump on it before it goes in the case. The bottom part of the FMJ housing comes first. Underneath it is a piece of sound dampening matting, it’s pretty thick so I’m hoping it does some vibration-killing as well.

And then the pump. Aqua-Computer’s modified Eheim 1046, the Aquastream. The top of the FMJ housing will be put on when the plate is in the case. By the way, in case you’re wondering: FMJ is the abbreviation of ‘Full Metal Jacket’…so it’s definitely a necessary attribute for this case!

That’s it for now, see you in a couple of days.

Jokkos, if you need any help with Samurize let me know. I've played with it alot and know how to handle transparency effects and such.

    Assembly, part five

Another update. I’m getting there, slowly. I’ve had a lot of other things to do, unfortunately.
I do have (most of) the hardware in the case and the watercooling loop (almost) set up, but just didn’t have the time to get those pics in this update as well. And I just couldn’t leave you waiting any longer…

The ‘bottom panel’ is in. Here’s what it looks like. I love it. The polished recessed sides reflect nicely, the clearcoated sticker also adds some depth. Not very visible in this pic, I’ll try to remedy this when I take the FIN pics.

A global shot of the whole front. Only the optical bay and PS1 screen were not in at that time.

The inside of the bottom panel. The pump plate is in, the FMJ housing is closed. You ca n see it somewhere underneath the wiring mess. If you’re scared, don’t read on since it gets worse. It’ll become a real NIGHMARE!

The bulgins and usb cables, as well as the other wiring that needs to go the the back of the case on the mobo side. Yup, I’ll need to do some cleaning up here as well.

After the bottom panel, I wanted to put in the last bits before starting on putting in the wiring. First up was the PS1 LCD screen. At the time I made the holes and stuff to mount it, I spent a horrible afternoon, since everything was wrong and off etc. But I’m glad I stayed calm and patient and corrected it. Now it looks great:

To protect the screen on the inside of the case, and to keep the extra stuff for its wiring contained, I made this mesh cover. It’s fitted on the back of the bolts that hold the lcd screen. The cable you see at its bottom right edge is the power cable for the lcd, the video cable is on the left.

To power the lcd, I use the car adapter. It fits right between two bars of the frame. Underneath it are two nuts of the front right case-foot. So it won’t overheat or anything. In short, a very nice location (this wasn’t planned or anything). Above it, you see the red/white cinch to 3,5mm jack cable that’s needed to hook the lcd up to an s-video port.

About the last things to put in at this moment were the casefans. Here they are. A Noiseblocker 80mm for the hard drive cage (only 9db at full speed) and a NorthQ 120mm for the mainboard (northbridge area – rated at 17db at full speed).

I promised you a wiring nightmare. The next two pics are souped up in Photoshop to show you detail. They might seem frightening. Trust me, there IS a method to this madness and it’s actually quite simple in real.

Here is the back of the Aquaero with all the wiring in.

Besides all the wiring of the bottom panel, the following wiring is cramped into this zone (which is about 12 cm high and 6 cm deep):
    - 4-pin power for the Aquaero
    - 3-pin connector to connect to the led-wiring on the side panel
    - pump connector
    - bridge cable between Aquaero and pump controller
    - 3-pin cable going from pump controller to mainboard (shows pump frequency as rpm)
    - 3 temperature sensors
    - 3 3-pin cables for the fans
    - 3-pin cable for two leds that go in the Aquatube
    - 3-pin cable for the flowsensor
    - and the two cables for the PS1 lcd

    So it’s logical it’s a bit crowded…

Here’s what the side where most of the wires are guided looks like. I’ve got some work left to do…although a lot of it has been done by the time I can post this update.

That’s it for now, next update will show the hardware in the case and the watercooling loop…

Nice work man, when you're selling the case you would be a millionair after some one had bought it.
But, one question how thick is your aluminium in millimeters?
