Well it's nice to see what you can buy but I doubt many here would want one. There's no fun for modders in a pre-built modded system. Alienware is slightly different as they have 'designer' cases rather than modified LianLi cases.

With regards to support how long do you realistically think Vadim will continue operating? I cannot see a long term future for a company with such a small niche market, especially when the big guns Dell and HP are vying for a chunk of it!

 

Dell and HP aren't interested in one of a kind custom builds - they want the company with 500 desktops and minimal hands-on support. Sure, they make half hearted attempts at gaming machines with a little OMGWOWZRAOLNOOB!!!! factor, but the person dropping five big ones on a machine won't consider something with a Dell or HP badge. Specialist manufacturers can always find a space if they know how to market themselves.

The company I work for is almost solely an HP shop (because I like HP and I get to choose) but when it came to getting a workstation for our 3DS-Max guy, he wanted a Boxx machine, and so that's what we bought. And I had to admit that they had a better knowledge of the 3D market than Sun or HP, and were able to put together a machine to our spec rather than offer a selection of off-the-shelf machines that needed upgrades purchased separately.

 

Thanks for the review, Tim. One quick note: it looks like from their "Customise" tab on their site, you can select XP Home, MCE or Pro w/ "Vista Voucher." Beside the OS selection tool, it explicitly says, "Windows Vista has still issues with the drivers. example - X-FI cards are causing bluescreens etc." Seems like this should be mentioned in your review.

 

It's one of the quietest machines we've had in the office. All of the fans run at 4v at default... occasionally they'll get up to 7v if you've got a warm room.

 

It would be nice if these loud-whiners could read the chapter of the noise before commenting here.. It's rather clearly stated in the review that the rig is very quiet. The price tag is just ridiculous, I wonder if someone actually buys these thing..

Realistically its £6600 when u add ur peripherals.. Thats just under €10,000 to me!!!! Insanity....

 

Thats some expensive and powerfull rig there,, if that were at an i-series lan there would be a crowd around it.

The glue mess was a bit of a disgrace - maybe they hope nobody would ever actually open the case.

 

Why is it a disgrace? It's simple, inexpensive, does the job, and will never be seen from the outside of the case. It won't deteriorate and fall out until well after the system is second-rate, so what's the problem?

More to the point, what should they have done instead?

 

If you think this is acceptable for a pc costing thousands of pounds then you need your head examined.




Ask any modder with an ounce of skill to do that and i'm sure it would be done cleanly without any residue showing.

 

it looks like silicone glue-stuff (dont know the word for it)... instead of hot-glue-gun-glue
man if i'd spend that much $€ on a rig.......

but the wiring and tubing looks real tidy but i think it would be hell to replace or do some maintenance in there......

One of my machines here is made by vadim, they are outstanding in everyway, they hit the nail on the head, i found them so nice the folks there, that i actually felt guilty, to ask for a change in my order like i was messing them about.

To the person complaining about the residue... these guys have a large build list to get through, and it would not be visible from the outside so its not a problem

theres a large margin between people who do it every day for a company, and people with all the time in the world for something which isn't making them money....

 

QFT. I tried to translate in the review the differenc between modders and companies building things and Vadim try to achieve both. Considering other "modded" things from companies that have passed our desks are far inferior, to still make money on it and make it look good from the outside to anyone other than us is doing something right. The guys on here who make the A1 mods spend in excess of £10k (Orac in excess of 20+++) and months/years to get it perfect. Not 15 days.

 

Does outsourcing some pre-designed watercuts entail a modded case???

Fair enough the WC n cable routing is finished to a high standard and some planning has gone into it... But givin that the case itself near enough std. Getting the panels cut and using sealant to stick on some plexi n mesh.. 2 days max. The interior would take up more time as would testing n clocking but the fact that its not strictly a one off means that they've done the interior before so all the kinks/problems should be ironed out n its a straight forward process..

I don't think the sealant is a problem.. its the finish of it that is.. It should be smooth the whole way round. Lick your finger and run it around the sealant n you'll get a smooth finish on it.

The only thing that really gets me is the cuts, the alu on that case is quite thick, where its cut the alu is bare... for £5k+ i'd want that sorted.. It would mean re-anodising the case but if ur spending that much.....

 

Not modded. just custom, rofl lol, now stop slaggin cos the workers at vadim, if told were to make custom cases, they would make you whining, kindergarten children look, like sissies having a hissie fit in mid bleaque winter.
