building everything from aluminium is one of my wettest dreams but there are some points standing against this.
1. price: the whole case was planned as a low cost project. i first thought of less then 100€ for everything. aluminium is very expensive atm, i simply can´t afford it ( damn chinese guys ) . the wooden parts are mostly made from stuff i found .
2. weight. the case should be lightwight. i dont know the exakt weight but it´s definitly less then 10kg. if i would use 10mm alu sheets it would be pretty heavy
3. workin with wood is a lot more easy. most of the tools my dad bought are for woodworking. neither having a mill or laser/watercut machine, nor knowing anybody who does and would do me a favour. ( there are compans in my town who own such machines but if i would cut it there we are back at point1 ). cutting everything by hand would be horrible.
4.time: i want to be done till april and there is not enough time to redo anything. sidepanels will be a lot of work and of course wiring and lighting everything up.

 

I have to admit this is very slick. I didn't think you could fab CF by hand either... but obviously you can. Keep up the godo work.

 

The carbon fiber look is just incredible - great work!

Nice to see some more CF based mods being built again. This one look really spectacular.

If you had seen my CF guide you would have known about the tape on edge trick for the weave. I built two CF mods a few years ago (here and here) and I love the material.

Good luck with this project, the end result will be very interesting to see.

That carbon fiber looks awesome! I project after my own heart! I had thought about doing a fiberglass case for a few months now, I'm in the business so to speak. But man that carbon fiber is just sh&t hot!

tip: if you want, you should look at the new style of recessed bonnet pins. pretty cool, hot stuff for imports right now. might be something you'd like. just google them.

the cover for my dvd drv will be glued to this alu-sheet



the spine at the cover is made of plexiglas. light from leds will be reflected on the transversal faces. on half is for the hdd the other for the pwr led. the parts are divided by a thin layer of alu-foil



in the end it will look very similar to this.

What a kind of precise man at work... I must use your same idea for the led , it's a cool touch to a case that I'm working on... tnx for the idea...
