I am buying a new laptop (http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=91984) It comes with a Geforce 7300, which will be OK but not amazing. What I want to know is 'Is it possible to upgrade a laptop graphics card?' Many thanks in advance, Keller
No.. for the reasons I gave you in my reply at the bottom of this thread - in which you asked the same question
anyway dont think it is possible to change the graph card in a laptop without some major disfigurement bit like plastic surgery lol
erm it is possible to change a graphics card in some laptops. It means some careful soldering and finding a new graphics card that is exactly the same size as the old one!
please don't post this rubbish, you are clearly misinformed I upgraded my fx1500m to a 2500m last week, it is pretty commonplace to do such things with Dell laptops [ I have also swapped out an ATI 9000 to a nvidia 4XX series as the ati card had fried on a previous pentium 4 Dell laptop] Most manufacturers offer multiple graphics solutions when configuring from new, so its a very easy task to buy and entry level graphics card then upgrade at a later date on these systems. Alienware are definately not the only company to offer this.
You can't change them if you have an integrated Gfx (Intl GMA anyone ?) Because the PCI Express plug is not present (cheaper). But for example on my inspiron 6400 (dell(ete)) I can swap my x1400 for a x1300 or Geforce 7300 (not that I would want to ^^). But you have a small choice, and have to stick to the laptop maufacturer.
it's a yes and no type of answer. Most cases you CAN'T upgrade because that's the concept of laptop: whole system ready to go without any fuss about putting it together. however some manufacturers who build laptop's include the option. second question should be would i want to be doing this? IMO the answer is no. You most likely void any warranty given. You might save cost by just getting one with a better gpu from the start. these other gpu's are rather hard to find. Finally u might just break your lappy. i replaced my ram at some point and things are cramped inside a laptop. U really have limited space for error. But hey where on bit-tech so this last thing might not be an issue to you.
