Are AMD 939 and the AMD x2 the same socket type ? by this will a 939 board take the x2 chip ?

Just wondering as i'm thinking of upgrading the core but not the board .. so if i'm being thick or just to lazy to find out for myself.

depends on ur mobo but a normal 939 is the same as a 939 X2, but just make sure ur mobo is dualcore compatible or you may need to do a BIOS flash.

I don´t know exactly what you are asking, but if you´re wondering if a dual core athlon64 x2 is compatible with a 939 board then the answer is yes, the athlon64x2 came out in socket 939 in the year 2005, the only thing is that you would probably need a bios upgrade.
but if you are wondering if the athlon64x2 for socket am2 are compatible with socket 939 then the answer is no,there is no compatibility as the memory controller is different on both chips, and they are not pin compatible.....
    my two cents
