After all that anticipation, the internet is broken and it seems Rockstar are at fault. I've managed to see one pokey looking image of New York so far, but I neeeed the trailer. Anyone have any luck? Even Gametrailers seems buggered under the sheet weight of rabid gamers.

So. The setting is New York. Discuss.

Well, we now know it is set in New York, and you play a Russian guy.

    Cool.

Yep... Liberty City. Says so on the back of the cargo ship.

Are any of you guys (who've seen the trailer) disappointed? I'm sort of split, but to be honest R* have done a great job of recreating New York for a video game.

Liberty City based on New York? Very vaguely. This time there's a proper Times Square and other famous landmarks. LC could have been anywhere the first time round.

Like in Vice City - who doesn't call that Miami in their game-brains?

I've found a torrent that is well seeded, but sooooooo slow.

After literally picking it apart frame by frame (6lb Burger :p) on my HD Telly (yes, it looks ****ing awesome) I am actually starting to think were in for a multi city game.... There were several references to Liberty City, and they were all on transport!

Its also been likened to this film...

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085809/

    the cinematic style anyway...

Life is cruel, I have a HDTV, downloaded the HD version.....my computer isn't powerful enough to run it at a smooth frame rate.....****ing Duron >_<

Have to wait until it comes out on 360 to view it in all of it's HD glory.

Looks pretty damn awesome though! Graphics look really good. Can't wait until it comes out.

Saw the trailer this morning...looks purdy!

What's the deal with platforms though? I presume it'll be 360/PS3 first, with a PC release later on?

PS3/360 simultaneous release, unsure on PC at the moment.

Rockstar say that there aren't enough PS3s to make it an exclusive

All the graphics in the world won't help if it's just the same game set in another city. Does look nice though, and Rockstar are saying that the in-game graphics will be that good, it's not pre-rendered.

I'm going to go for an April 08 release on PC... That was the timeframe of the last 2 games. GTA3 took ages to port.. It was almost a year before I was able to make my sentinel weigh more than the sun and do 0 - 500 in under a second... oh and it had go faster stripes... and flames... and massive wheels... and was only ever black... and only ever driven by old ladies that never put up a fight...

That was a fun game :p

    And its got a russian/ukrainian!

no, but it does look good. And seeing as its being completely re-built, i'm sure this and Crisis are going to be good fun.

On PC..:: Do we think its going to be DX10?

Nice Koyaanisqatsi referencing. I like. There's mention of Liberty City everywhere... But it really IS New York. I mean, Chrysler Building, Statue of Liberty? Eh? Could be a nod to more than one city... Or it's just 'The Real New York aka Liberty City' this time. Looks great though.

    You nonce.

One thing I like is the size of the buildings. I always thought for a big city, Liberty City was really "short" - almost like a big town rather than a sprawling metropolis. The taller buildings give a much better look and feel if you ask me.

I thought Liberty City was supposed to be loosely based around Chicago. Either way, what we see in the trailer is definitely New York, whether they call it New York or something else, though...who knows.
