Having had a few problems with my out of warranty 360, it finally got to the point where I couldn't help it any more. Despite my best efforts it kept freezing up about 5 minutes into games. It had been sent back to MS a few months previously for the same reason. Found a place up in Scotland who repair them for £55 inc return shipping and a 6 month guarantee, so I thought I'd give them a try. So far, I'm very impressed. They keep you informed and are happy to answer calls. The xbox seems to be holding out but time will tell I suppose. The friendly Scots seem to have sorted it (for now). fingers crossed http://www.gtelectronics.co.uk/ Cheaper than MS, faster than MS and with a longer guarantee. I just thought I'd share that with you in case anyone needs it. Good luck!
With duck tape and a screwdriver. Depends on what the problem is, I'm sure it's very easy to get hold of 360 spares.
I already tried the towel trick and it worked... for about 3 hours. I would imagine that in this case they sorted out the soldering that has deteriorated. If the popular theories behind the towel trick are correct. Apparently if they can't fix it, they offer to buy it from you. Presumably for spares.
No luck on the squeeze trick. So the whole fiasco with the 360 failures is mainly down tot he fact the case is awful 'cos it's far too hot and the solder they used was ****ty quality? Beyond me why they havn't done anything about it, surely it'd cost them less money to used decent solder than it would to keep on fixing 360s?
Yup. Cheap and crap solder coupled with the fact that everything has to be RHOS, means that it's even worse again. I think it might be economies of scale and still only several percent actually die.
I had a few freezes on my 360 so I just renewed the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu with arctic silver. It's worked sweet ever since.Mine is a release day 360 as well,so it's a canny age now.lol.
