    Hello

    I need your help deciding on the following video cards - gf 7600gt or gf 8500gt.
    I can choose between gf 7600gt or gf 8500gt from my local store with no extra payment.

    gf 7600gt has good reviews and is priced about 150 us$
    gf 8500gt is new to the market and is supposed to be marketed at 100 us$

    And so this is my dilemma, since the 8500gt is priced lower than the 7600gt, does it mean it is weaker even though it is new ?

    Which is better???
    Need your help and expertise in the matter.

    Thanks a head

    the 8-series cards will do directx10, the 7-series will only do directx9. the 8500gt is meant to be the successor to the 7600gs. shouldn't be too much performance difference. go for the 8500gt.

    also, welcome to the forums.

    Well for arounds 150-190 us you could get a 8800gts, also the new ati cards are supposed to be benchmarked this next week so you may want to hold off just a little while. :thumb:

    :worried: The 8600 are underwhelming and the 8500 will only be slower BUT you should still find it's often faster than a 7600GT. In addition the 8500 will have better IQ, DX10 hardware and most likely some o/c'ing headroom too. However if you could afford a 7900GS, X1950Pro or 8600GTS I would suggest going for one of those (or obviously waiting to see if AmdTI don't disappoint like nVidia has).

    Review I saw of the 8600gt said that it performed worse than the 7600gt in certain games, so I dont know whether it is really worth buying into the 8600 series.

    Hmm not sure where you saw that but according to firingsquads review http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8600_gts_preview/default.aspthe 8600GT beats the 7600GT in every test, easily. The games tested are
    Stalker, BF2142, FEAR, Oblivion, COD2, COH, FarCry, HL2:Lost Coast, Quake 4 and Pacific Fighters.

    Also in the review it looks like the 8600GTS is about on par with a 7900GS and X1950Pro. Some games it bettered and some not.

    The 8500 was not included.

    Well worth a read imo.

    8600GTS=675+1450/2000 32SP 8ROP 16TA 128bitDDR
    8600GT=540+1190/1400 32SP 8ROP 16TA 128bitDDR
    8500GT=450+900/800 16SP 4ROP 8TA 128bitDDR

    ;) The 8500GT has less than half the core speed of the 8600GT, this combined with memory that's almost half the speed is surely going to hurt it dropping it below the 7600GT, most likely down to 7600GS if not 6600GT levels. It's well worth paying the extra for the 8600GT (or the 8600GTS, 7900GS, X1950GT, X1950Pro etc). I think I saw 7600GT as cheap as £75 tho, that's still quite a bargain all things considered.

    if i were you id be more patient and decide at the end of may (ati has released their set by then) and that should give you more options. Dont rush anyway since the graphical intense new games are comin out around june-sept and should give you lots of time to think. (in the end its worth it, i know that hardware isnt always up to date because new techs are always round the corner however i believe that there is a right time to purchase things and not just go on a random shopping spree)

    Out of the 2 options go for the 7600 GT... But it will be well worth it to go for a 8600.

    Don't you mean $250-290? I don't think the 8800gts is that low...

    Oh, and go for the 8-series card, a pal of mine just got it, and he really likes it.
