Hi I got myself a new mobo and cpu and fitted them yesterday but I cant get a signal to the monitor? Just stays in standby mode. this is what I got: Asus P5PE-VM Mobo Pentium D 840 (3.2Ghz) CPU Zallman CNPS9500 HSF 2GB RAM (2x1GB sticks) 2 SATA HDD Thermaltake TR2 470watt PSU DVDRW Drive This is what I have tried so far: Connected evreything = No display (checked connections a number of times) Tried diferrent monitor = No display Cleared CMOS = No display Just CPU + 1GB stick RAM + power switch(no reset switch or leds connected) = No display (swapped ram sticks and slots) Tried different CPU(pentium D 805 2.66Ghz) = No display Tried both CPUs + RAM in another MOBO(pcchips) = works fine! When there is no RAM in the Asus board it gives error beeps but when RAM IS installed there are no beeps what so ever. (not even a single start up beep) Can anyone suggest anything else??? Would love any help/advice. Thanks you all in advance Trevor
I'd say it's a faulty board, you've tried everything I would suggest. All there may be is if you try to insert a PCI graphics card, goto the BIOS and check graphics is enabled.
Oh forgot about that! Tried my GeForce 6600 AGP card and got no display on that either. The board is brand new so cant see it being that??? Didnt think that was very common these days.
it's actually a lot more common then you think, we hear about them a lot over here and in general in tech support.
Damn!!! Think I may as well send it back and get a replacement then. Gotta be a lot easier than stressing myself trying to get it going lol Thanks mate
Plug everything in except the memory, unplug the power cord, move the jumper to clear cmos, take the cmos battery out, leave it for a good few minutes, reinsert the cmos battery, change the jumper back, plug in and see where you get. If it's still dud (or you've tried that already) and you want to try this as a last resort: Try without ram again, move the clr cmos jumper to clear and power up, see if it starts beeping. If it does, power down, unplug power, change cmos jumper, insert ram, plug the power cord back in and switch on.
Kudos to the OP for doing some very thorough troubleshooting before posting a thread, marvellous! As Doug's said, it's 99% a dead board, the BIOS clearing method from kenco might work, or might not. Otherwise it's RMA time.
Thanks guys, I tried what you've suggested but still no joy. I'm at a loss and am very frustrated GGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
