I'm sorry, I really don't trust anything I read on Fudzilla until it's been backed up by at least three sources that I am more willing to believe... ;) (Such as Bit-Tech...)

But I agree - hurry up and release the 2900, already! :D

well, I wouldn't write about it if it wasn't at the least pretty plausible based on what I already know... but can't really talk about :)

What's the pegged date for the R600's? I thought they were out about next week (although I'm probably imagining it).

    Aye.

NDAs are a pain, aren't they? :hehe:

With the delays that R600 has had, I can easily see some sort of refresh of the product in the relatively short term (in rather the same style that X1900 came shortly after X1800) be it a die shrink or something different. Given that AMD are already making 65nm chips, it can't be that hard to alter the process to do R600 cores... of course, with the increased number of transistors I'm sure yields will drop like a rock. But then, I'm not an electronic engineer, so my knowledge on that front is relatively limited. :(

I think that if this refresh happens it'll be more like the X1900XTX to X1950XTX refresh rather than the X1800 to X1900 refresh. If they just drop down the gate size, and don't change the architecture at all it'll probably just end up with higher clocks and GDDR4.

    Mm.

I meant more like the X1800->X1900 shift by time delay, more than by architectural alterations. :) I thought that the X1950 came out quite late after the X1900, while the X1900 was out just a few months after X1800...

With AMD being in the shitter economically and ATi taking literally years to debut a current gen GPU I wouldn't doubt that we'll see a power move by nVidia to sway people into buying a more affordable NV GPU and of course ATi will counter by releasing an OC'd version of their card and we'll be right back at point B where we started off.

If anything I expect the 8800GTS to drop towards the £150 range, and the GTX and Ultra will be left to fight the 2900XT. Then an 8850 with 1Gb of RAM will appear soon after to destroy the 2900XTX...

A better example then the X1900 series would be the X850 XT PE that replaced the once imagined X800 XT PE for ATI that came months after the launch of the X800 series.

The reason for my differing with you this time is that the X800 series was a complete reworking of the core infrastructure over the 9800 series and the X1800 and X1900 where only revisions of each other. The X2900 series is a complete reworking of the core over the X1900 series just as the X1800 was over the X800 series.

Anyway with all the delays that have occurred with the R600 it is clear that yields have not been so hot for the X2900 XTX and the X2900 XT and is the reason why just like the X800 series we will see an over abundance of lower priced and powered cores similar to the X300, X600 and X700 that dominated the R400 line and ultimately reversed to the negitive ATI fortunes.

    lol

ATI do need to get the card out of the gate as the X2800 cards i think have disapointed alot hat have waited 6-8 months for the card i sold my 7950 GX2 before it became not worth any thing,. considering it now i would of got the 8800 gts 640mb not the 8800 GTX as all my games are limted by my cpu and my monitor cant go any higher to push the card heh)

    i still with amd for this turn {or last 5 turns/cpus} (3800+ X2 sold droped in an 5600X2 @ 3.1Ghz :) £60 upgrade) do hope there cpus are better then core 2 duo at the end of this year {oo sig change}

Personally, my old geforce 2 was a better value than anything that has been on the market in the last few years. Amazingly, it was actually worth the money.

    GPU's suck now.

the 8800 has been an big jump compeared to any thing els but ATI not rels the new r600 sooner has kept the 8800 high in price

the ati 1950 has been placed as best buy at this time (as the price of the 8800 is to fast for its time heh) if looking for an high end card but not to high priced (and not bothed about DX10 yet)

I'd love to get back into the red *glances at his broken 9800 Pro* but they have to get these damn things on the market.
