I reckon that would make the mounting of the [heavy] plates less sturdy. I wouldn't dare mounting something like that in some soft acrylic - not that they would 'fall out' or bend the acrylic, but I doubt they'll be sitting as firmly in place as if most of the side panel is kept intact.

Very nice work. somehow your black on black is so much better than mine.

Also, this is the first project log I've read in months. it was worth it.

Another (6) hours work on the side panel..
Started off by removing the bulk of LL's sound-absorbing-stuff:
what a PAIN, and still not finished! The "main-layer" (sort of peels-off), I plan to leave the "short-hairs".. It will still help with noise/vibration cancellation, so in my mind it makes sense not to remove it completely.. I just want it to look uniform. So, I am giving the panel a hair-cut.. I know, it's the inside of the side panel.. BUT, what can I say-- thats how I am..
The package with my clear-acrylic came in, I have been waiting for this stuff!
Lets set it up. Using a 12"x12" sheet:
It's over-sized for the IL rotor, but it will help to support the weight of that unit..
It's also the first time I used this stuff:
Makrolon AR "glass like hardness" sounds good to me!
As I said, using (almost) the full 12"x12" sheet:
small angle cut (used hacksaw).. Then drilling/taping/countersinking:
    M4 countersunk-bolts for the tail-end:
I threaded the sheet acrylic to accept these bolts, and countersunk:
the side panel's bolt holes so that the IL clutch cover will sit flush-
    [IMG]
main acrylic mounting bolts are the (5) 5/16" chrome button heads:
It will become a sandwich of IL stainless steel rotor/LL side panel/acrylic sheet..
The Indian Larry clutch cover is/will be a vent, let's work on that:
    a CD is about 120mm:
and that is about what I need, in AC Ryan MeshxPanel:
I used my DeWalt swivel-head shears to cut this, followed by some file-work and a mounting hole ( which is offer-center by design)..the mesh needs a repaint, I know.. Later..

    it fits here:
    back-side
    [IMG]
    front-side
    [IMG]
    pull the tape
Hope this update makes-sense, drank quite a few beers while typing..
thats it.. next update in about (10) days..

WOW, your pc looks awesome! All of them look awesome  Will it have any more windows? I hope not, it looks freaking cool. Btw makrolon ain't plexi, it's actually polycarbonate. Much tougher then plexi. Plexi breaks, polycarbonate does not. It's actually bulletproof :D

Great looking water blocks, I'm a little confused about the latest update but you should clear that up with the next update

gr8 work on the sidepanel. I like how you include all this motorcycle parts in your mod. I'm wondering if it will look more like a motorcyle than a computer in the end :D

Having used eddie's blocks in the past, I know the answer. IMHO, EkWaterBlocks blocks are the best on the market-today..
EK has achieved true "form and function" with there line of water blocks!
The only detail I am unsure of at this point in time is there "tops" Delrin or Clear..
The (black) Delrin is sexy, but hides eddie's work.. What I have, I have in Delrin. BUT, clear tops are available for all there blocks (about $10US each)..
At this point in time.. I have yet to decide..

@ rigor and beast: the next side panel window update will be the last and should/will answer any questions you-guys have..
I have begun the (tedious) process of removing the tape from the LL side panel. I know, sounds EZ... BUT, the tape left-behind residue on the panel. That stuff was hard to remove! Ended up using the heatgun and lots O-rubbing.
clean as a whistle-now, but no-kidding.. a good hours-worth of messing around.. Another hour for the IL rotor. Countless finger-prints and dirt..
    I used:
    looking good:
Time was at a premium today, and that was all I had.. Another day (or two) and the side panel will be FIN. update to follow..

@ Ap: your 100% correct, polycarbonate.. Just calling it "acrylic" out of habit.. Bullet-proof, can't say. I have not fired any rounds at it!! :hehe:
What I can say is that it "stinks" (very strange-smell) when Dremel-cutting!
    PS: welcome to the forums!

@widmod: I hope the project does end up looking like a motorcycle, that would be Great!

Put a FIN to this side panel window soon.. :thumb: that I promise!

I have tha same question in mind...
    Clear top or delrin top?
I think I'll use the clear top, I love to see the work inside :-]
    And you?

YEP- clear top.. well 80% .. The black Delrin is sexy..(and high tech)..
Just not-sure! If the trend is clear-tops, I my go Delrin.. For no-other reason except, to be different!

You might try using drafting tape. It's designed to pull off cleanly.

This is looking AWESOME! I'm gonna have to cover my keyboard with plastic to catch the drool.

I'vwe tried to mask my clear top wb with black tape, not so bad, but I like more the clear look... Unfortunatly, you can't do the same... Mmm, 10 buck more to try the clear top? I think so... :-]

    mid4-

Had a small amount of time today. Assembled the window components.
What remains is cutting (to length) the five mounting bolts for the IL rotor and mocking up some RED lighting inside the case to see the FIN affect.. Tomorrow (Thursday) I hope..
I am very happy with the side panel. The chrome and black, the IL logo-stuff..
It's design is actually spartan. Basically, rounds holes - different sizes.. The question-marks should look great with RED back lightinng..
    Enough talk, the pictures:

I had not intended on this machine being an Indian Larry tribute project, but the side panel (IMHO) is just that.. Thanks Larry!
lets finish off with a kickass wallpaper of the panhead in his last bike
Chain O Mystery from the IL book by Timothy White
I will FIN this in a day (or two)..

wow that looks great but and well it might be just the camera but the middle window the edging for it looks ruff, kinda jagged but again that could be just the camera or my eyes lol but other then that it looks fantastic.
