I have been working on this mod for almost 2 years. I advance realy slow because it's a low priority for me at te moment. the idea is to mod a normal PC in a World War II radio. I'm building the case for someone else who loves to play RTCW:ET. At this moment the case is almost finished but some details still have to be done. that was how she was looking before I started. Nothing in the front will be changed. first thing to do : make a normal ATX motherboard fit. so I took everything out. and made a new frame using as much as possible from the original case. cleaning up the front and try to fit in a motherboard tray close call but it fits more Soon
an interesting idea but i think a redone frame would have been better. though, that would complicate things as you would then have to remove and remount the radio's front panel. wish you the best of luck on this mod. i like that ww2 radio
every switch and light in the front will be reused I started with the power and HD -led and connected then some led's in the front. I used amber colored leds they give a 'warm light' like old lamps. in the dark In the upperright there was an old Voltage meter. I have been searching for the right resistor for some day's. But I found it (not very clear but it says '12V') front at this moment
I really like this project. It actually looks really cool in that piano black colour. It looks sorta modern to me!
I found a new function of the fuse holder and the transmitter cabel I'll be transmitting with firewire from now on
nice ideas, nice WWII radio. i like the amber leds. i wanna see more amber being used! a glow around each knob would be nice, an led concealed under each knob would give this effect. the dvd drive MUST be black however. you must buy one, they dont cost much. im sure you are gonna block the space above and below the dvd drive. a small hole with a little grommet is oneway to allow the led wires to pass. if the wires are just exposed, hanging under the dvd tray when the dvd is opened, it would probably blend in with the "WWII" feel of it. hope you make/mod a matching monitor, keyboard & mouse
What would be neat is to have the dial on a spring loaded hing and let the dvd open it and close it.Also do you know the model of this radio?I love this mod.I use to collect mil-radios until it took over my life had to sell them off. Led's behind all the knobs sounds alittle to much.you want to keep the looks as real as possible. Watching this mod everyday.Great work
The hardware you see on the pictures is just for testing. there will be a black dvd/writer I don't know anything about old WW2 radio's. on the radio there is writen "mod 125/1" The guy we bought it from said it was used in airplanes.
For myself I think I like the whole dial coming out, even though it'll make loading the discs a little awkward. The flip down would look cool as well. As for the LEDs, you might be right there as well, but I also think having all of them lit with low power LEDs would look good. Basically, you may be right on both points, and I like your idea of the flip-down, but I tend to like what saiko has planned a little better.
new update. I numbered the parts so I can explain what is going to be what 1.Audio out 2.fancontroller can set a fan between 300 en 3000 RPM 3.ON-OFF knop 4.Firewire in-mini 5.firewire in-normal 6.dvd-stealth 7.Radio button kind of tuner. if you turn you can search post's if you stand on a post a tune starts playing and the white LED starts burning 8.can dim the leds movie about number 7 http://users.skynet.be/p33w33//WWIIcase/Casemod.wmv
Absolutely love it to bits - would so much like to have something similar. Well done on such a great job and for being so respectful to its heritage.
You know what I think might look good. If you placed an optical drive vertically behind the radio dial and had a window to show the disk spinning where the frequency graph is at the moment. Althugh this would mean the drive would eject out of the top though
this is a big update. all the hardware is mounted And a fotoshoot at a WW2 jeep (also modded for off-road use) some detail shots As you can see there is not much space for a good CPU cooler. there is only 6CM space. At his moment we have a 1U s775 cooler but he is not doing his job very well. The intel e6600 is running at 80°C idle. so the next thing to do is find a good 2U cooler or we have to adjust things.
