Scratch Build – In Progress Project "Tikki Aquarium" - [update 040707: piranha madness]

this is what we have done today.....


first we covered the cables inside the head


then we begin to build the base part, where the aquarium later should stand on and the hardware will be mounted in....






we also tested if it is solid enough....


and we begin to make a plexiglas mounting plate for the DVD Drive which will hang under the Top Plate of the Basepart.....

today we finished the mounting plate for the dvd drive....




as next we modified our mainbase that it can flip up on one side...that way we will always have an easy access to the hdd....




then we made some small plexi mounting plates for the water reservoir. It will be mounted on the backside of the mainboard tray so that it can flip up with the mainboard when accessing the HDD.





at least we tested if our construct would fit inside the our socket

 

this is the pci bracket which we gonna use for the backside.....just some sanding and polishing and it´s done....



then we got 2 drawer excerpts which will be placed under the mainboardtray so that it can be easy moved inside and outside of the case



as you can see, one side already fits perfect for our needs but the other side is a little bit too long...so we will get some other excerpts tomorrow and try which combination will be the best

today we got excerpts in the right dimensions so that we could build the mechanical part which we need to slide the hardware inside and outside of the case....

 

today we built the chassis for the hardware...we used bendable wood to make the outer wall and fixed it with a lot of screws and nails on our base construct with the hardware in it.....



then we made a big hole in it where the hardware can slide through....but up to now its just a raw hole which will be brought into the right shape in the next days







we also made the mounting points for our radiator which will be placed beside the mainboard.....





i think later we will polish all aluminium stripes so that they look like chrome, but we will decide that later when the basepart airbrush is ready so that we can see the contrast first....

can't wait to see it finished and all polished

 

after a lot of polishing the pci bracket is now ready and already connected with the mainboard tray...




then we already draw some of the details on the lower tube part which will be 3d shaped liked the head...

 

Wow. That PCI bracket is awesome. If it had been thinner material I would have thought it was great, but the thicker stuff makes it so much better.

 

This is really great. I like the wood detail!!! Can't wait to see more.

hardware chassis

thank you all!!!

in the last 2 days we spent a lot of time building the hardware chassis and putting details on it.... i think you´ll now get a better impression what it will look like when its finished...






beside that we made a small fan cover for the Northbridge Fan on the Mainboard....





and we also made a small video of some parts of the building process....you can find it on youtube or here

 

today just a small update...

we spent our time to bring some more details on the Lower Part...



i think tomorrow we will begin to build the back door which will be curved like the rest of the case.....therefore we already begin to build a base construction on which we can nail the bendable wood but i will show you some more pictures tomorrow when it´s done....

 

in the last 2 days we spent our time building the back door for the lower part where the hardware will be integrated.....









beside that we build a mounting hole for our aquarium on top of the lower part....and tested if everything fits






as next we will put some details on the back door and start the sanding process so that we can soon start to airbrush the lower part....

in the last couple of days my internet connection was f***k up so i couldn´t post any updates....now that everything works again i have forgotten to take the sd card with the biggest part of the picture´s with me so i can only show you the mounted water reservoir and a first picture the paintjob on the lower part....

 

today we had a big family celebration (my grandma´s 70. Birthday...) so i can only show you some shots we take this morning during the next airbrush steps...
