Bournemouth's tethered balloon at dusk. Taken with a Nikon D70 using the kit lens. Sharpened and saturated in Adobe Lightroom, and then shrunk quite a bit, obviously!

    1/320 Sec at f3.8
    27mm Focal Length

Nice shot, you could try cropping tighter around the balloon, enriching the orange of the flame and maybe darkening (and increasing the contrast of) the sky - to give me a moodier look?

Kept the crop the same though.

That is much better, but there is a lot of empty concrete at the bottom of the picture, and removing some of the tree on the left might 'frame' the balloon a little better.

There's too much clutter in the shot for me.
It would have been cool if you could have got closer and taken a shot from below the baloon.

The white sign in the trees is very distracting.

Second that. I would also have bracketed the shot or increased the exposure.

I'll admit that this was designed to be more of a plain shot of the town for my Gran than anything particularly arty, hence why there is a lot of stuff in it that isn't relevant to the main point of focus.

I deliberately underexposed to make it look more like the time of day it actually was when I took the photo. Using the normal exposure settings just made it look like noon, which ruined the mood I was trying to capture.

I left the paths in at the bottom because I liked the texture of the rain on the concrete, and felt it added to the moody evening theme. I thought the two trees framed the pic quite well too. Obviously there was nothing I could do about the sign without moving to a totally different location, and taking a more close up shot would have lost too much of the surroundings that I wanted to capture.
