It is indeed a tommy gun or the offical name which is the 'Thompson Sub Machine Gun' it was very popular with american gangsters in the prohibitation years (Oh god life without alcohol how would we all manage :cries: ) It was then also known as the chicago typre writer.

My dad bought it. But it can't be used anymore; there are some holes drilled in it (and some more stuff) so you can't shoot anymore.

Well, serves fine as decoration :D

The Thompson pics they have look totally different than my gun.

Actually, I always thought my one is russian. At least my dad said so; but he did't know the exact model name.

May be it's a modded Tommy gun :D

I was wondering how you wolu fire that particular gun?

If the butt is up against your right shoulder and your right index finger on the trigger, where do you steady the gun with your left hand?

But you are right t doesn't look like a Tommy gun. They tentd to have extra handles

Yeah, it's pretty ****ty to hold; I always hold it between trigger and magazine with my left hand. but it's a bit stupid that way ...

The thing about that weapon is that shooting it is like carrying a flashing beacon and and a sign saying "I'm here!!!".

I shot one a couple of years ago and it was like a firework, sparks everywhere!

I can tell you this, and this is fact. If you wanna know how I know, I'll tell you.

The pics posted so far are of the Thompson M1A1. The references to the Tommy gun are actually the Thompson M1A1 1928 model, or to call it it's proper name, the M1928A1.

The 1928 model was never actually popular with the mob, but moviemakers liked it, so that myth was born. The drum magazine is interchangeable with the stick mag.
It was used by the US military and later replaced by the M1A1 in WWII. They can be easily told apart by the fact that the cocking handle of the 1928 is on the side and the m1a1 on the top. Look at Saving Private Ryan (I think it's actually on TV here soon) and you'll see the m1a1 because it's a very accurate film.

Your gun actually is Russian like you thought. The PPSh 41 - 7.62mm Soviet Submachine Gun (or Burp Gun) to be exact.

    Seen here

Yea, I'm sure you'd say that when brandishing a knife and someone shot you in the face.

i'd rather have a gun than a knife in a fire fight, but swords and knives are so much cooler as decoration type things. it's also more entertaining to watch a sword fight than a gun fight
