hey guys, I'm in a band, and we just got some new songs up on myspace, our first ones, all home recorded so excuse the quality, anyone fancy having a look? Interested in the feedback, if it's positive we're pretty much definitely gonna record properly, should be cool! so what you guys think? c.u.later p.s. does the soundcard you use have a major impact on recording quality?
Yes, you have ADC converters to take into account which are usually lower weighted quality than DACs.
You don't want a pc gamers soundcard for recording music. You want a recording studio style card. M-audio, E-Mu etc.
Got a mate who's an artist but also has his own studio for doing contracted work. He recommends M-Audio every time I ask about sound (I ignored him because I like my fancy EAX effects).
I just bought an Alesis multimix 16 firewire, which is a mixer that sends all 16 channels to the computer through firewire. I haven't recorded anything with the whole band (summer jobs got in the way of much practice at all), but from my fiddling it works and sounds great. It's not super high end, but it's far better than any gaming soundcard. And you get 8 preamped channels (think drum mics or micing everyone at the same time).
that looks good, was looking at a yamaha 12 channel usb mixer, but looking at it that looks about being the same price, so I might look into getting that, thanks c.u.later p.s. any feedback on the actual tracks?
I use a presonus firebox to record. Don't even know how much it cost, as I inherited it from a friend who upgraded his kit. Works great for me! Can't listen at the moment cuz I'm at work but if I remember later I'll have a shufty. What sort of stuff is it? AH
