Indeed, very good work. I think that such a case would look great polished. But paint should be great though Keep it up mate.
I don't think he could polish it because of the cuts and reworking. It would leave the epoxy putty exposed.
Yeah, that's one of the main reasons why i am not keeping it bare metal - the front and back would look ugly. The outer cage will be polished to match the window panel. Which reminds me - my new panel arrived this morning from the States so i can get to work on that at the weekend maybe. So many things to do! I have looked into clearcoating and polishing the black paint however and might be doing this depending on how the matt black looks with the polished aluminium. I should have the last of the watercooling components tomorrow. I promised Weasal i will tally the cost... something i am not looking forward to i must say! I keep telling myself it's an investment! Cyp.
LOL! I also try and explain it like that. But, I keep on telling my Fiance', its something I love and it makes me happy....and then I make you happy
Hey Cyprio Im absolutely loving you mod right now. MAC G5 case are so sexy. They are actually alot nicer than a Lian Li But i saw this pic, it needs a bit more sanding there, seeing as it is the front. you will also still notice it even after a good spray job. But otherwise keep this thread alive, i wanna see this thing finished
Lol my bad on that. i was kinda skimming through but reading as i was going. must not have seen that line. Still loving this case mod though. At work we work on these, G5's
I like the mod too, but prefer a New Belgium Abbey! Quick question: you're installing OSX on this, right? Are you limited in your choice of motherboards?
Belgian all the way when i can get my hands on it - Duvel and Leffe Blonde my personal favourites. But dangerous to have them whilst modding i would have thought though! I am planning on Vista (unfortunately, as i love the Mac OS) - i am however an avid PC Gamer (see www.brclan.net for my clan) and this is going to be my main gaming rig... for now. Next update dependent on a couple of final deliveries - last watercooling connectors and some case finishing products like clear coat, 2000 grit paper and some 3M buffing compound.
After a day spent painting, then sanding, then painting and then sanding to get rid of imperfections i ended up with these. I will let the pictures speak for themselves folks as im not sure what to say about them apart from apologies for the fingerprints, but the outer cage is not finished.
I am deeply impressed. I have seen Mac G5 mods before, but because PC components have such a very different layout, a case conversion usually ends up hacking a beautiful case apart... Not so with your project. The black paint job is an inspired way of smoothing out the already well-executed case cuts. I think that in fact you have not just retained the clean G5 design, but radically improved on it. Excellent work!
