    Hi guys

I've tried using fraps but the frame rate either cripples me, or the file size is ridiculous.

Does anyone have any suggestions to a good in-game recorder that can record smoothly?

    Thanks:)

    Hehe

Yeh I wish I could but the thing is it makes some ridiculous file size. I mean I only want it to make like for YouTube or something dont need no proper high quality video just one that looks average and doesn't cripple my frame rates whilst im playing.

Any further suggestions peoples? I'm all ears :)

Most games have inbuilt recorders. Which games are you trying to record?

use fraps and find some other app to resize the file afterwards.

There are no program that will make a fluid video file while you play the game. However, as said above, some games have a demo recording command that you could use to record your game and then, later on, replay this game and make a video using Fraps(which is pretty much the only option you have to record as a video)

The other option is not quite as interesting. I've tried it with UT2k4 and, although the image quality is great, it is much more complicated to do and there is no sound recorded. It consists in dumping every frame of the replay into a bmp somewhere on your disk. You then end up with hundreds or thousands of 3mb bmp files that you need to convert to video using virtual dub. It takes forever, requires a lot of space, has no sound, but the image quality is awesome :D

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Has anyone got any "optimisation" tips for FRAPS then? Reason being is as soon as I hit the record key, the frame rate shoots from 80fps right down to 20fps - making it completley unplayable. I mean theres got to be some way I can record + play the game fine with minimal fps loss because I mean how do other people do it?

They cant be like juddering whilst trying to shoot someone, or blow 'em up etc surley?

    Thx!

It depends on your system. If you have a fairly beefy system, then I can record at around 45FPS in CSS with no slowdown. Select the video recording size to 640x480, or lower your screensize in-game.

Yup Fraps is the best! just record with it then Edit your clip with Windows movie maker or any other Editor and resize :thumb:

It's don't slow down any game with me.. Fraps is nice also to show the frame rats even when you not recording :D

Fraps and windows has a movie suite kinda thing, I say suite its not really but it does resize and they're suitable for upload to the internet as well!

Windows movie maker, although im sure there is better software out there its all free, also fraps unregistered or unpayed only record for 30 seconds at a time so invest some money and get the full version!

If you tell fraps to record at 20fps it will effectively limit you to 20fps, kind of like lowering your monitors refresh then sticking the game on v-sync.
Essentially you may see better game performance if you set frap to record at at 30fps.

Atleast that's how it works if I remember it right :p

Yeh I read your post, but I didn't really get anything out of it. As far as im aware bf2142 and cod2 dont have in-game recording commands. Then your second points says it takes up large space (which i dont want) and it produces (awesome image quality) another thing I do not want.

Ok I shall give that a shot, hopefully I am sucessfull :)

    Thx for the replies !
