This case is definitely the next Mod Of The Mod... No doubt about it, Excellent job you are doing Sethnmalice

 

Often mods on here, while they look exceptional, its clear they are a mod. Yours is one of the few of such clean build quality it almost looks like a case manufacturer designed a large cube case and fabbed it up. In case you're wondering this is a compliment Keep up the good work!

 

This case is an AWESOME build. i have seen it in cold hard aluminium. Well done and congrat's on your achievement.

By the way, he won Mod of the month last month for this mod

I have been awaiting some parts, alot of parts actually. Modders mesh and dual cathode arrived today, wasnt expecting it till monday, so theres a bonus, i can complete the base over the weekend.
Still working out base structure of wiring and in need of a few other pieces, then once thats done ill begin.

For the moment, i have been working on making my own box, for the controller to fit into and later on the cathode box circuit board thingy wirey stuff.


This is a piece of cardboard, I have upgraded from MDF to Cardboard, this will be the template for the box.


Pieces cut out, and i cut the corners, which will make it easier to bend later, and also when i transfer to the 1mm alu, it'll be even easier to bend and shouldnt stress the alu corners so much.


Pieces bent into the correct shape.


We now have a box, the template was 2 cm's too high so i reduced it in the alu one.The measurements are 13cm long , 8 cm wide, and 6 cm high, the other tabs are so i can rivet it all together later on.


Rough plan of how im hoping to have it all, and the reason its this way, is because, i want to show off the cabling later on (you'll understand alot better when i begin the process of the wiring).

I'm happy with the template, lets transfer that to alu. The alu is 1mm thick and 300mm x 300mm, cost me $12.00 AUD, not bad, was originally intended for a few custom fan grills for next mod, but not to worry can get more later on.

Thats all I've done so far, i ran out of natural light and i dont usually work in the dark, plus is cold n horrid outside, so ill have this done by tomorrow, with holes cut (hopefully wired) and with it all together.

Moving onto - the case again, i had cut out the mesh pieces and was just trial fitting it, but im undecided as to keep it black or strip and polish it, this stuff as far as i know isnt alu, its steel, so im wondering if i use steel mag polish whether it will be the same polished color as the alu or if it will be darker or lighter.





And finally, I have been working in secret with the lighting, basically each of the 6 pieces will be cut/filed/sanded - 120/800/1200, then polished by hand and then each piece will be fit into the space where the comb looking pieces are, they inturn will have a red led mounted from the rear to light it, all 6 of them, front-top/front-left/front-right/back-top/back-left/back-right will be fed into the fan bus and be permanent lighting and im keeping my fingers crossed it all works lol.





Also nothing would be complete with a bit of polished alu tubing to hide some of the cables, how this works is that ill lay it somewhere in the case and feed the fan cables through them, it should roughly look like a neat network of cables, with polished tubing and on the corners i have shiny black tubing. Everything will be visible, thats the intention.

Uh ohh, another sick idea

More work, no wiring yet, not really good at it, so im putting it off for the moment, other things keep popping into my head, so i went with them instead.

I began working on the side panels yet again, as my mesh arrived last night, so the original plan was to mount the mesh behing each of the panels, to act as a grill and still provide ventilation, but as i checked it over today, i went with a different game plan.

Why not just mount the mesh inbetween the two beams, so i did, i tried it first with it flush and then with it set back a bit, heres some pics to show you what i mean...

I quite like it recessed in, so i painted it black and rivetted it in place...

Its a great contrast against the red panel, that looks gradient between yellow and red.

I'm happy with that, just waiting on the other one to dry and it will be attached to the other side.

Tonight I start my wiring, so hope to have a mini progress update on that too.

that looks great, with the mesh on the top but the mesh on the corners doesnt look that great at least in the pics, I would stick with a solid cover plate instead... scratch that lol I just looked again and realized that you have the mesh on the bottom corners and a solid plate on the top corners, that looks great

also as the saying goes you have the patients of a saint, man all that filing and sanding would drive me nuts, bet your hands and wrist must really love you =p

I really like the idea of the aluminium tubing to route the cables through. And the mesh looks awesome too

i think it was a great idea to paint the mesh black........
the silver looked good too........but the black looks a lot better......

This is really something, and proves that you don't need all the CNC, and laser cutting devices to get an amazing metal mod! Well done. This is a very original project!
