In similar fashion to the music thread I figured I'd start one for movies.

Just a few off the top of my head.

    Last of the Mohicans
    Cape Fear
    Der Untergang
    The Departed
    Scarface

I prefer the new Italian Job to the original, though from what I hear, I'm in the minority.

That's not really a remake... And I think that you would be in the minority.

I really liked the new "planet of the apes" but I never saw the orignial, that's probably an interesting one open to debate.

Oceans 11 - although the original does have it's charms (and Sammy Davis Jr!)

Not film, but I am loving the new Battlestar Galactica.
I haven't seen the Original Alfie, but the new one is amazing.

I preferred the original Batman myself, but I did like Batman Returns.

Batman Returns? Never heard of that one, but it sounds like the illicit love-child of Batman Begins (which blows the old-school Batman movies out of the water) and Superman Returns, which most definitely does not.

Actually, to split hairs that wasn't a remake at all. It had nothing to do with the original film it took its name from.

Alfie and The Italian Job better than the originals?, Never!, While on the subject of Michael Caine films though, I have to say that Get Carter is the WORST Remake of a Caine film ever

 Yep my bad. Got confused with superman returns. Batman begins was better then the keaton version.
Bit of an old one, but the remake of Brewsters millions with the Late Richard Pryor is superb, a must see comedy if you haven't already seen it. Also stars the late John Candy.
John Carpenters The Thing was much improved over the original black and white version. Although I do like the original, Kurt Russell is on top form in the remake.

Actually, the animated LotRwas down to Ralph Bakshi, and (IIRC) only covered Fellowship up until Arwen made the river sweep away the RingWraiths.

Ralph Bakshi also gave the world:-

    Cool World
    Fritz the Cat
And most of the Marvel animated TV shows from the late 60's (Spiderman, Hulk, etc)
