The local DIY stores such as B&Q only seem to stock up to 300 grit sandpaper. Would hobby stores or auto stores sell this grade of sandpaper? Need it to lap my CPU. Cheers
Auto shops and Hobby shops will have finer grades but it will tend to be emery paper or wet and dry rather than sandpaper. Sandpaper tends to be used on wood and emery paper or wet & dry tends to be used on metal and plastics so it depends on what your want to do with it. I would say that your local B&Q aren't doing a very good service if that's all they have, did you try looking in their car section or the decorating department? If you are just looking in the woodwork section then that might be why you are only finding 300 grit - or you could say to the Customer Service desk that you want some finer grade abrasives.
Is this any good to ya? Or there's this (230 x 280mm 1000 Grit Wet and Dry Sanding Sheet)? And the top product on this page, is a kit which includes 120, 240, 400, 600 and 1200 grit sanding pads - for just £1.97? The 600 and 1000 grit are available individually near the bottom of the page, if the kit is of no use to ya. Finally... there's a whole range of different grades (including 800, 1000 and 1200) available from here
I got mine from the local DIY shop where they sold single sheets, bought 240, 400 and 800 for HS lapping. Chain shops tend to just have multi-packs, but you should get the finer grits at Halfords and other car DIY places. I've used 1200 grit, but it's overkill, you can wipe your arse with it.
Thanks for the help folks you saved me the hassel of driving around town. Looks like Halfords is the first port of call. If i find nothing then those links you posted Hazardous should do. BTW cpemma thanks for that really painfull mental image
The OP would have a long wait before he could use it though, since he's in the UK, and that seller is from the USA
i dunno about the uk, but all the big hardware stores and auto stores have it over here. hobby stores generally don't have much.
http://www.onlineindustrialsupply.c...arbide-waterproof-9--by-11--paper-sheets.html I've ordered from here before, this stuff is great, I ordered it a few years ago (in 600, 1000, and 2000 grit) and still haven't run out. Definitely worth it.
