Ok guys. Im new to the modding block so complain away ;) You can look at my first attempt at micro modding in my sig. Lol still not done yet as I am waiting for Tribal to finish his kicka** res.

Anyway, I decided to do a full blown case mod because I got tired of "looking" at xcellent mods and decide "Im going to do on." The project will be named "Borealis" Sounds familiar? The Freeman? Yes I was kind of inspired by HL2 and how the Combine buildings and weapons and their overall layout looked. Plus its the next destination for EP3. Combine items have that sharp 90 degree edges with glowing blue here and there. Just that industrial/futuristic look.

Now the way I am doing this is first building a chassis for the Boreas cooler, Boreas...Borealis :eyebrow: how ironic lulz, made by CoolIt. ~Special Thanks to Barry the App Specialist. Answered my million questions!~ Im going to be using TEC cooling for my components. I still have faith in TEC cooling and really not biased against any kind of cooling other than air, yucky. Step two is then modding the side panels and then three is modding the inside of the case. My ETA to finish this project is end of June 2008.

Materials I will be using is standard and exotic. To make the blue glow I will be using AC Ryan UV Blue Acrylic and for that Combine look, I decided to use 1/4" Delrin plastic. Quite exotic no? Seriously though my wallet cried a lot from buying Delrin.... :waah: Serious business.

Updates will be probably far and few since college is rearing its ugly butt. So Ill post as soon as I have some spare time.

Ok enough chat some pictures of where I am up to.

Got three of the new Scythe Ultra Kaze (87 CFM, 33 dbA), Ultra Wind, 100 5mm socket head cap screws, 100 corresponding nuts, and 3x 3mm AC Ryan UV Blue Acrylic Panels.

Ok to the actual modding. The new XP clamps are so ez to use. Just press the trigger and it will clamp tight!

Screwed in the brackets to connect to the top side Boreas Chassis.

Left, Right, Top 80% Done! (lulz not all the screws are aligned correctly. Assuming it will be hard to nice once everything is glowing blue and inside the eually glowing blue case.)

Just need to screw in the middle sections between the "L" shapes, make sure it will fit the Boreas Chiller, ETA Novermber 7th, and create the back portion to install another 120mm fan. Looks like this:

    .......|---------------------------|---------------|
    .......|................................|..................|
    <----|................................|-------->......|
    .......|................................|.........|.......|
    .......|---------------------------|.........|.......|
    .........................................|.........v......|
    .........................................|---------------|

The Boreas Chiller has two fans blowing hot air out. The fan I want to install is the one blowing down towards the floor (One of the Scythe fans). Thats all for this week. Next update will be when I get the Boreas Chiller next week. See you then. Complain away!

Ill try to upload them on Sunday. lol over 20 pages of brainstorming. Got the Case Side panel sketches done. Case Top is still going through some designs and Case Front is still up in the air.

Forgot to mention. The case, at the moment, is going to be Lian Li V1200b Plus II. Still tentative. lol not ready for 100% mod yet.

nice concept. i hope you correct the jagged edges and the alignment of screws, it's tedious but fruitful.

Ok I just got back from testing the Ultra Kaze. HOLY SHIAT ITS QUIET! I thought 33 dbA is loud, but HOLY SHIAT! and 87 CFM!!! It felt like a regular house fan at medium speed but in a 120mm diameter instead! I think this is a great buy. Its just as quiet as my Apevia UV Blue 120 at 27 dbA and 67 CFM in my h2O build. I recommend the Ultra Kaze 2000rpm fan. :thumb:

Borealis 11/3 (Boreas Chassis 70% Done)

Ok If found some time today to accomplish everything I could do without the Boreas Chiller.

A better drawing of what the horribly made acsii tried to explain.

The long rectangles are 120mm fans.

Some measurements for the Case Right side panels. The measurements are tentative as I still need the case to see how everything fits and that is still ~ three weeks away. The openings will be UV Blue Windows. The bottom left hand side will be a view of the Boreas Chller+Chassis and the right hand side will be a view of the mobo and its accessories.

How the right and the left case panels will look. The right side is on the left and the left is on the right. For the left panel (right side one on picture below) I will be removing that bottom window. wanted to use a Kingwin 800W power supply that had really nice aircraft style plugs, but read some reviews and they were so-so so took out that window. Planning to put Borealis on the upper window on the same panel. It wll be on the back of the mobo tray.

A view of the KingWin plugs.

    (OCclub)

A preliminary sketch of the Boreas Chassis. Will probably different when if comes to the final product.

Spaceraver wanted smooth edges so I bring you smooth edges! Loots of fine grey dust and lots of :dremel: . lol it looked like ash. :)

    Chassis 70% DONE!

Your res is 60% complete!!! You ready!!! I'll post pics later on when I get my camera from the studio. I have off monday night. so I will be getting them wet, testing them out. I'll have to video too. I have to finish DB's two dual res's and then it's aluminum city from there on in! I'm going to try and design some shields here while at work:) Question,... do you want Borealis on the shields or no? I just dont mean in little letters either,... I mean big as in Borealis pretty much being the shields. There will be some kind of outer shape with borealis stretching from one side to the other. All polished aluminum. What you think?

Don't put Borealis on the shields. Just put your tradename on it so I can use it on either projects. :) lol this project is almost on the fly because I only got the Side Panels and the Chassis on paper lol everything on Borealis is still tentative.

You just want some general design and my name on it? Hmmm,... I assume you dont want shields to match this case. I'll just design something in general. I have to figure out what to put on as for my name,... I mean, I cant just put tribaloverkill becaus eI have to give credit to acryan too so ACRyan - Studio - TribalOVERKILL it has to be but thats long as hell. So I thinking,... ACRST on side and LEVO on the other? These to shorter names aren't as popular but they will be after this res:) For ACRST and LEVO will be worth something soon. Is this cool with you? I will also be etching on the inside of the the end pieces of the reservoir too. Dont know exactly what yet but I do know I will be putting the serial name of the reservoir, probably ACRST, and Custom LEVO. How does that all sound? How big do you want the ACRST and LEVO? Im thinking about doing what I did for the NKCM res, one on one side and the other on the other side. This time a bit bigger but this time the letters will be reversed, not cut outs. Know what I mean? It will look hot! i might have a pic of a possible to post when I get home.

lol acronyms galore! Reminds me of John Turturro in Transformers telling Tyrese Gibson, "Keep up with the acronyms."

Sounds great to me. As for the size, it doesn't matter. I like the both sides idea like what you did with the NKCM. Work your magic Tribal :)

It helps if you put your ASCIIs inside
    Code:
-tags.. The images are so darn dark I can't really tell if you've made good work there, but I guess I'll just have to take your word for it. Keep it coming :D

:duh: lol forgot to take pictures with the light on. I happen to have the camera in my pocket (lol a point-and-shoot camera. No dSLR guys) when I did the UV testing. Its quite sturdy. Used some cement glue and 4 L brackets to connect the sides to the top. Screws are still not aligned perfectly. The whole Chassis will probably be in the dark most of the time so you can say that what you see up there is what it will look like in the case.
