That's too funny! Makes you proud to live in Manchester, it really does. Edit: Doh too slow with the quote, but it is the funniest thing i've read this week
I saw a TV show a while back where they were giving some chavvy types in some sort of verbal reasoning test, and they interviewed the one who did the best: Interviewer - "Well done Ms. Pollard, you scored 96% in the test!" Vicky - "...out of?" The question "out of?" became a bit of a recurring joke amongst my group of friends for a few months. It's my favourite thing anyone's ever said, ever. AH
Absolutely Nexxo - I can't see why people are so shocked by this, not everyone understands these things, I don't laugh at someone for not being able to understand proper quantum mechanics or programming, but why are negative numbers any different?
Actually, if IQ is going this way ---> and that is INCREASING, as one would assume, that would make the people in the little purple bit the top 5-10%. Surely the truly stupid people would be in the little bit at the very beginning of the curve....? Or have I stated the obvious?
They are common knowledge, but so is quantum physics - it's all relative to a group of people. Alright, negative numbers are far more common, but that still doesn't mean people should instantly understand the concept of numbers being higher and lower in the specific way that we think of higher and lower numbers without being taught. Even then, aren't there some people out there who don't have the ability to understand? People who don't use negative numbers often think of hotter and colder, rather than higher and lower.
A good idea would have been for people wrongly claiming a prize to have a shower of confetti fly out of the lottery machine and then handed a framed certificate saying 'Congratulations! You fail at life!'
