Ehrm, I think it is real water on top of the case, because he just wanted to show us what it would look like if it was clearcoated.....:D

But your right, he has great painting skills, i love it.

This is my favorite case mod on bit-tech.

Beautiful artwork - not too over the top.

    Great!

    Looking good.

How do you cut those stencils out? I assume you have some sort of stencil printer.

    Hi Jamie,

Up until a few weeks ago I cut all my stencils by hand - a skill that every airbrush artist must master. But recently I 'invested' in a vinyl cutter ( the type used to make play boy stickers for chav cars :p )
This is the first time i have used one as most of my work, i tend to do freehand.
I've always known I could do with one, and it opens up more doors of things i can do...it was a big bullet to bite... was it worth it?

    kinda...

I soon found that drawing things such as the bioshock logo, line by line, in corel draw. exporting from file type to file type, eventually making it to the cutting software, then hours of careful 'weeding' ( pulling the bits of the stencil that are not needed )... I found that it takes me longer than doing it by hand, with a number 11 and a steady hand.

So vinyl plotter are not everything they crack up to be and certainly dont make a job any easier... not as much as i had thought anyway.

The place where they excel however, is text. In the past text was a real PITA to cut by hand, and was soul destroying if it ever went wrong, so that is a bennefit :)

I would say custom painting and airbrushing relies on good masking, and cutting by hand, I would say the plotter / cutter does 33% of the masking, the other 66% is ye olde hand cut masks :)
These things are not automatic ! lol

He says in the first post that it was 'looking bad' now.
And i was allready speechless then...

And then he is cutting a bioshock logo masks with 2mm lines.
And I was totaly getting frustrated when i cut out a 160pt Impact sized 3 letter logo out of mask not so long ago...

Its just amazing. I can only dream of doing this kind of stuff. DAMN!

Just a quick update, have not got the time to say much so ill just let the pics to the talking. . . .

this is the case as it was from the last update, I have masked the photograph part off, and put some subtle droplets on the case.

and also painted the bioshock logo in.

Very sorry, will have to update text and descriptions later on !

I have started to add colour to the panel, your really going to have to stick with me on this one as it looks bad before it gets better.

now there would have been 5 or 6 pictures here, but as i type, i am starting at the memory card that was meant to be in my camera... still stuck in the card reader. So there i was taking pictures that were not saved anywhere.

So i only have one picture.

again theres a ton of very fine paint in the air so the pics look bad, but you get the idea

more blue needs to be added to the girl, and the gloves need to be toned down a bit. apart from that, clear coat will tie everything in and melt some of the overspray into a smooth gradient of light

thats it for now guys !

    .....

On looking at that picture again I know what your thinking... but you're gonna really have to trust me on this one. Its gonna look wicked when its done :)
