Apple iMac Memory?

My bro just bought an iMac with basic 1GB stick of memory, however Apple charge though the nose for an extra stick but you can upgrade it yourself.

An extra single stick of 1GB is less than £20 now, but I want to get him a 2GB stick to give him 3GB to play with - HOWEVER - will it work? Do iMac's or Macbooks go funny with mismatched sticks? (it's the same memory - ddr2-667 SODIMMS).

    EDIT: Hrmm £57 for 2GB or £17 for 1GB :|

but do you run a 1GB stick with a 2GB or a 512mb with a 1GB? I need to know for sure if they work mis-matched sizes.

Is 2GB enough for OSX Leopard? Or will 3 be far better?

I run two 1GB sticks with no problems. Wouldn't know if different sized sticks would work correctly, but I see no reason why not.

2GB will be fine for Leopard.

They run FINE like this, no problems whatsoever mate. 2 gig is plenty, but if you can go for 3 then why the hell not eh? A 1 gig stick is so cheap right now it'd be crazy not to upgrade.

Backing up what others have said, pretty sure I've put 3GB into a few iMacs (1GB base, 2GB expansion, PPC & Intel) without issue.
