http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2007/08/21/bioshock_gameplay_review/1 Highly recommended, especially since you can now turn off Vita-life chambers with a patch and thus restore some challenge and incentive to the game. It's got to be that or The Orange Box.
From playing the demo I can also say that it's very hardware-kind, running fine on my system which crumbles under a modded Oblivion.
Bit out of luck there, Bioshock won't run on that graphics card, same as my old x800 pro, has no shader 3.0 support I'd second the suggestion for Orange Box though, Portal is awesome
i love bioshock but i thought that the guns were pretty crap, and i mainly just used plasmids when i could as they had a better feel to them. Also the story was well overrated, the 'huge twist' wasn't to hard to predict (if i knew how to do the block thingy i'd use it now) and the ending was rushed, so much it irritated me, as when you put some serious hours in a game you don't want a 2 minute conclusion. However Rapture is just incredible and they could do a lot more with it in the sequel that joe mentioned the other day. Still, awesome game and probably the best soundtrack since final fantasy 7 (just try and argue) Papa loves mambo...
Very repetitive, and although appears to have plenty of depth (ho ho) early on, you soon realise it's just a lot of shooting the same bad guys and doing the same old Big Daddy battles, over and over again. But, it does look gorgeous, has terrific sound, loads to do, there is a fair amount of freeplay involved within the confines of each area too. However I felt it was massively overhyped, and undeserving of the plaudits it received tbh.
I've only played the first level and a half, but have been meaning to go back to it. I love the atmosphere and everything but the gameplay feels a bit awkward to me. I find it hard to shoot people and when you do, they don't seem to go down as easily as you think they ought to. BTW- I'm playing on the 360, so that could be the reason.
I've just started playing System Shock 2, and the similarities are slapping me in the face. It's the exact same game, on every level of examination. So I give bioshock a thumbs up for style, but a slap with a wet willy for being so unoriginal.
I'm about 4 hrs into Bioshock at the moment. Can't fault the setting at all. An underwater 1950's styled city which is fantastically designed. Loving all the little bits of dialogue aswell from the enemies. I wish the puzzles were a bit more varied and challenging. Doing the same plumbing puzzle over and over is something that could have easily been avoided to make the game a bit more varied. Only played a bit of system shock 2, so if bioshock is similar to that game then I guess I've been granted a boon of sorts (don't have to play the older title).
not a bad game in my opinion but nothing special and particulary innovative probably doesnt deserve the overhyped reviews of 9 and 10 out of 10
BioShock was an amazing game whilst it lasted. It wasnt anywhere near long enough though, once I completed it I havent found myself going back to it yet. I certainly will do when I get my new PC in though.
