Well ladles and jellyspoons, that time has come for me. I passed my driving test on thursday (second time, 7 minors) and have just stuck down the money for my first car! I'ts a 1.6 8v Vauxhall Astra in "Met Grey" I think. Paid 2100 for it.

Tada! I'm picking it up from Tamworth on friday morning, then I have to go to work, great fun! Still.. Yay!

Nice one - I remember my first car, a red Golf 1.9TDI.
It was great, until a French woman pulled out on me 4 weeks after I passed my test.
She was on the wrong side of the side road, looking the wrong way. *****.

After that little Debacle, I got myself my Volvo S40. Only two things can write one of those off: a lorry and another volvo...

Big Cars take a while to get used to. I can't get all the way back in the S40 - I've had it nearly 2 years and still don't know where the boot ends.
I normally get close enough though, and the heated leather seats definitely make up for it in this weather!

    HIGH FIVE!
Doesn't look that big of a car. At least it appears roomy in the cabin. Tight space in the back is a quick way to lose friends' interest in getting a ride from you. Looks just like a Corolla, in fact.

If thats an 8-valve engine then something is wrong. It should be either the C16XE or X16XE 16valve engines. Good car though.

nice looking first car. I'm betting insurance isn't too cheap though! Bit better than my 96 Punto. Well done for doing the sensible thing and getting a 5 door too!

I drive my mums Astra which is just like that except is the 1.4 engine. I've not got my full licence yet, just provisional. I've never driven anything smaller. My instructors car is one of the new Astra's which is even bigger. Insurance for me, mum & dad comes to around £350 p/a

On a side note, I've lost my theory test certificate which has a number on it.
To book the practical test online you need this number but I've been told you don't over the phone since they can look up the details using your driving licence number. However I've been trying to get hold of the DSA on the phone to book my test for weeks. Everytime I phone up I go through the menus and eventually get a recording that tells me that they are busy and to call again later then disconnects me, no queue or anything.

    Any suggestions?
