Considering I don't care for sli, and would rather just upgrade a single gfx card every year, it looks like I'll be skipping this.
I do like the new nf200. It seems a much improved solution for sli over the previous nb/sb split. But overall the p35 or x38 chipset seems to be just a bit more modern. There's just too much old tech in this nvidia chipset and a lot of it seems kinda thrown together.

meaning for official 1600FSB, we got to wait until next year, when x48 comes out?

that sucks, i was thinking of upgrading so that i can get on the 1600FSB Q9x00 wagon when it comes out. surely it's just a simple BIOS update? even my P35 can hit 400FSB without breaking a sweat

A lot of X38 boards are rated to 1600MHz FSB. We (trustedreviews) dropped our QX9770 in a Gigabyte X38-D6Q with the latest bios and it was fine. AFAIK some P35 boards are also going to get unofficialy official (so to speak - i.e. not intel sanctioned but working) bios versions too (that right bindi?).

Wish they had 12 (or 14-16) USB ports, 8 SATA, 6 DIMM slots, and a few other gimmicks thrown in. I don't really see why I should pay 90$ for more or less the exact same motherboard but with an extra chip thrown in and a PCI-e x1 slot less =\

It might be that 1600FSB chips will work in some 1333 boards but require you to overclock to get to rated speeds of the CPU, like some of the P965 boards will do with 1333FSB CPUs.

I got the evga email as well.... think I'll just stick with the 680i... Going to a higher board just means you need better periferals to actually take advantage of it. So, why spend hundreds more on new hardware? 780i = upgrade on EVERYTHING... wont waste it till I'm going to upgrade completely.

    :)

Free upgrade from NF4 to x38 is the way to go...

*Wants* I think I will be sticking the my NF4, i just can't justify an upgrade until it breaks...(at least yet)
Is there a reason why they have decided to provide 1 less expansion slot for that huge heatsink? IMO it would have been better to expand somewhere other than down!
I do like this colour scheme though http://www.bit-tech.net/content_images/2007/12/first_look_nvidia_nforce_780i_sli/compare-8.jpg
although I rather agree about that Gigabyte one...

OK, I know this is a bit off topic, but I was searching on Google for "nvidia 790i" and saw that nvidia 790i will support DDR3 only.... Is this true? :wallbash:
The good (?) news is that it won't need the NV200 chip...
