First I wonder how large the area is that is trying to gain independence. Whatever the size I see them having problems replacing government services such as schools, police, city maintenance and the like.

Also I wonder if this is one radical speaking out or if its a majority of a large community.

Either way I really don’t see them succeding and if they do I can’t imagine it being beneficial to those who live there.

They may be legally in the right, but just like way back when, the US is not going to allow these people their freedom.

I don't see why they shouldn't be able to be independent if they want to be. I can't see it working in their benefit though.

Although it's nice to see that some of the Native Americans still have some fight left in them. I recently went to a casino on a reservation around here and it made me want to throw up.

Didn't work for Iraq or Afghanistan...

I'd be applauding them. Think of it as karma. White man robbed the Native Americans of their wealth, now they get to take it all right back from him. :D

The area covers parts of five states. It's quite large for a Native American population.

Being half Seminole, I SO hope this works. Next, I hope my people do this.

Yeah it didn't and I doubt it will work for them either. It should though.

That's one way to look at it but I couldn't help thinking that it more or less robbed them of their dignity and made them have to act like parasites to survive. Which in turn destroyed the culture they once had, it made me very sad.

What resources do they have? What monetary system would they set up? ... .... ...

Seriously, I expect they have another agenda but this is a great way to get attention. It reminds me of Quebec here in Canada (though Quebec has slightly more chance of making it work).

What have they got to lose?
On the other hand: tax haven and data haven right on your doorstep. No off-shore accounts required: just drive across the border and open a bank account. Set up business without worrying about US legal restrictions. Trust me, this could work out very well for them.
