DDR2: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-108-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813 Then DDR3: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=8&subid=923 I can't claim credit for this, so thanks, Hugo @ TR. Yea, it's OCUK and yea it's C5 memory but still the principle of worldly differences applies.
Crazy prices indeed...awesome for a cheap DDR2 server. I've gone for the DDR3 route though.... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-095-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=923 shiny.....got em yesterday with my Asus Maximus Extreme and Q6600....gotta build the rig though.
I considered getting that memory, but went with (GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit ) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813 instead. That's £140 for 8GB, although you need 8 dimm slots hehe. I don't think 8GB would help over 4GB thou Although for an extra £100 its worth considering
Are you absolutely insane? £318 for 2GB of RAM?! I'm utterly lost for words. [edit]You could've got 4GB of C5 DDR2, the Asus Maximus Formula board, then given £220 to charity if it's burning that much of a hole in your pocket...
quickly grab the DDR2 now! there's no point in getting DDR3 unless you plan to keep that motherboard for 2+ years.
Way i see it, by buying DDR2 and saving £400, you can then upgrade to DDR3 in 1-2 years when its actually better than DDR2 and isn't so expensive. With £400 saved i could buy a new mobo and better DDR3 in the future.
If you're rendering I'm assuming multicore, in which case i'd highly recommend FB-DIMMs + 8 core/2CPU server Or at least, ECC Not many consumer chipsets handle all 8GB well I'd imagine
Whoo, DDR2 is practically lying in the streets, and w/ the 8800 GT range this is turning into the best time evarr to build a machine! I'm frantically saving up.
Well, I don't think DDR2 price is going to rise ever again. There's no hurry to build (even if DDR2 will be kind of outdated after a year).
Am seriously considering server, but my 975x was a workstation chipset, and the BadAxe2 is technically a workstation board, capable of 8 GB. Got a great deal on CPUs if I go dually though...
Ive currently got 4GB of DDR2 @ 333MHZ which im plenty happy with so I dont see any reason to upgrade yet, If you're looking for that much power though its an extremely good price.
Pfff....http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=ME-D2-2048-80 4 of those = 8GB DDR2-800 C5 for £84.
You gents get fleeced on 8GB of ram. I could get it for about $146 here; just need to wait for it to get into stock. ROB's 1:1 pricing ration in action?
Price of components in the UK has always been higher, we got to pay 17.5% VAT tax to begin with, then its just generally more expensive anyway. I tend to find components in America are 40-60% cheaper.
