So which version should I buy and why?

Home premium 32bit - More compatibility, Limited Memory usage?

Home Premium 64bit - Future proofed, tho may have software issues?

Any and all experienced users wither either version is welcomed.

    Thanks!

I've had some minor software and hardware problems with Vista 64-bit, but they've been Vista related not 64-bit related. For example, Autodesk Inventor 8 won't work. Autodesk says it's not Vista supported even though it's only 2 years old and cost several thousand dollars... Also, my wireless card wasn't supported, nor were my logitech keyboard and mouse. Once again, these were all Vista specific, not 64-bit specific.

The sales guy told me they were the same thing, as in, on the same disk and the appropriate one would install... as I found out later this isn't the case and I have the 32bit version. But doing some digging on M$ site I found that if you have the 32bit version you can get the 64bit version for $13CDN incl. shipping (that's to Canada). That really surprised me! So you can get the 32bit and for not much more order the additional DVD and have both editions.

    [edit]
The Ultimate version comes with both 32 and 64bit versions in the box so I guess the sales guy wasn't exactly wrong but was mistaken about the Premium version.

You shouldn't buy any version. Vista is a failure. Stick with XP or start using a proper OS like Linux ;)

I had the exact same problem (but with the business edition). $10 US and 5 days wait.

I'm Running Vista 64 at the moment And I haven't come across much that won't work so far. The only thing was my Logitech MX510 mouse, but it works using Logitech Setpoint. (It's not supported, but it works)

The backwards compatibility seems to be pretty good so far.

Same thing with my mouse, but setpoint would occasionally cause vista to crash, so I tried to uninstall it, only to find out that the uninstaller was not vista ready and I couldn't get the darn thing off my computer without reformatting.

    64bit :thumb:
Driver and software support is actually not bad.
Only thing ive had a driver issue with really is a 64bit driver for a old tv tunner card.
Vast majority of my programs and hardware work fine.

isnt it the full retail version (better known as the completly ovrpriced edition) that includes 32 bit and 64 bit version on the disk and the cheaper versions, oem, student etc are separate as in only 32 bit or only 64 bit on the disk?

not really sure if im right on that.. but i think i've read something to that extent somewhere.

oh, and i'd go for 64 bit... i'm running 64 bit home premium.. the number of issues is small... i trashed my audigy 4 over the creative drivers... but i cant really blame vista for that.
some old games can make trouble, but newer ones work fine.

i would go for Business 64bit
business has backup center which can backup your data on another drive, and then it can made a restore of whole C: when smth went wrong.
and business also have "windows fax and scan" which is the only application is able to use my benQ scanner. not even the app from benq wasnt able to do. so consider that.
But with business you loose media center...

Do some research on the backup. A lot of people have used it only to lose a lot of files. It doesn't actually back up everything.
