I had an old fried DVD burner (this was when DVD burners were a new thing) so I replaced it, the new DVD burner works, but I am having some issues. It seems to burn fine, but when I try to access the drive (CD contents) through my computer, I get an error message

    D:/ not accessible
    Incorrect function.

Works fine when exploring CD's with stuff on them, but I can't access the CD or DVD through My Computer, external programs can burn to them but it tends to come up short and not work quite right, the old DVD gave similar errors, but didn't even get to the point where it registered blank media.

I have no idea what to do.

I should have mentioned i am using windows XP, and a Pioneer DVR-2810, but the think looks promising.

It still is acting the same way, Nero software recognizes the disk and the data on it, but my computer is useless. I followed the steps and did everything, I'm not sure what the deal is.

Hi my first post so hope this helps, double click my computer, right click optical drive in question select properties from drop down menu, new window will open up, click recording tab, and select enable recording on this drive.

That's very strange - 'coz all writers should have that tab

What tabs have you got along the top then?

Does XP recognise it as the correct model? If so, then it's probably a fault with the cable, if not, then probably a fault with the drive.

It registers as a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-212D SCSI CdRom Device, and it's a Pioneer DVR-2810, so what shall I do? Return the drive as defective?

Sounds like it's got the wrong firmware or you've been sent the wrong drive. Return it to the retailer.

I stand corrected, DVR-2810 is the package (Nero + Pioneer DVR212) package name. I'll check for firmware updates now, but I think this is a windows problem rather than a hardware or connector problem.

    I'm still confused though?

You defiantly got me stumped. If you can try it in another computer please do so. Otherwise, if it was me, I would get an exchange.

I don't have another PC, but I am fairly sure this is a Windows problem and not a drive problem. I'm stumped too.

don't know if it's possible for CD drives but can you go into task manager and uninstall it, then let windows re-install the drivers?
