I love the huge battle fields in BF2 - and even though I bought it, I really don't get on with BF2142. So, does anyone still play BF2, and if not, what other games are similar? ET QW is OK (was in the beta) but not as inspiring as BF2 used to be..

BF2 was great, until they destroyed it. :)

I stopped playing it for quite awhile, then recently picked it up again. Great game, definitely some balancing issues thought (I'm looking at you J10...).

I used to love owning with the J35s on Gulf of Oman, but then they made the jets bullet magnets. So I play as medic on Road to Jalalabad most of the time. Or that new huge desert map they have. That is, when I have time, which isn't that often.

I do find myself not playing it, then (as seems to be the case with most on here) will get right back into it for a few months. Never played 2142 though or any of the addons

Only downside to bf2 for me now is having to restart into XP in order to play it. Makes it harder to open it up for a "casual 15-minute game", which would end up being 2hrs.

Before my PC lost its magic smoke :(, I was a huge BF2 player as well as 2142. Battlefield 2142 wasn't bad, per se, the problem was that it felt more like a BF2 modification than an entirely new game. This is what contributed to its death. Battlefield 2 is still going strong (if you need proof, check the number of clans still devoted to BF2).

I installed and played a bit last night - great fun. Shame it doesnt run very well on my system though - which is odd. Perhaps it doesnt like vista or dual core.

    (runs fine, but freezes randomly)

BF2 runs flawlessly for me on Vista. You need to let punkbuster have admin privalages, and i can't for the life of me remember how i did it.

Use to love BF2. If only they had changed one thing...make the damn aircraft land to re-arm their bombs. The old, oh lets just do a flyby and I'm fully loaded, killed games with aircraft in it with half decent pilots. Kharkand (sic?) probably one of my favourite maps. Ground battles were epic. Flying machines PAHHH!!

TF2 has stolen my gaming heart at the moment. Can't see me returning to BF2 again. Ah well, thanks for the memories BF2.:D
