Just thought I'd let you guys know...

When you get past like the £500 to £1000 bracket the quality gain per pound starts to even off. And even tho you get better audio from the speakers it starts coming at a higher price.

You wanna save money right ? You don't care about fart arsing around with gits who think sony means quality ( as if sony was well renounded for audio equipment LOL ). Well i suggest building your own speakers...

You can search around and buy great kits and seriously beat the quality of completed retail sets by nearly half the price.

Don't let marketing gimmicks fool you, You can achive just the same quality if you know roughtly what your doing, ( theres tons of guides and instructions. If you know how to use a screwdriver and a soldering iron thats about all you need.

Go on put the K in Kustom... people make their their own PCs with amazing results and the same goes for speakers. Crossovers, sub and ttweater stuff can be done easyly.

Here is a list of DIY speaker sites http://www.hifiheaven.com/diy-speakers.htm

It's a shame, while the saving made on making your own PC might be minimal unlike PC companys high end speaker companies charge WAYYY over the cost to make, they make huge profit. True audiophiles go custom :)

I agree, and I disagree. actually more on the disagree.
you can not just make speakers in your basement and expect them to have the same acoustics as say kef speakers.
they have teams of people working on sound acoustics and how sound reacts inside their boxes.

unless you go to school for that then you can not make the same quality stuff.

You overflatter the big guns of the industry...

It's pretty much obvious you can just buy the parts seperatly and make an enclosure just as a good as the best manufacturers if you follow the instructions on the kit...

true audiophiles buy in kit form

Ok fair enough but you have to remember that the manufacturing cost of the speakers is mostly weighed upon the the components wood, cables, drivers etc... The actual dynamics will probably be tested for sure in a lab but even still THEY would have you belive you are paying for the extreme quality and the great design.

Well it's a bit of a fabrication really... it's kinda like how nike sells some sneakers for £110 and they only cost like £10 to make, good sneakers tho but is it worth paying that much more ?

Well it depends how good you are at making sneakers. For sneakers it's a bit easyer and im willing to be the quality could be as high as you wanted... cabnet dynamics.. perhaps not but it really depends where you get your reference designs.

With the right equipment tho you can definitly match high end speakers. Let us not forget there are plenty of speakers still using squareish cabnets which ( if you were really determined to get an eqivilant ) could quite easly duplicated with the same components and still save money.

But some people just like the little badge that says... 'insert brand'. So it's not for all.
