Hey guys, right my X1950 is showing it's age especially since today I bought Crysis and it moans even on medium setting * how you get 1680 by 1050 on crysis anyhows :sigh:, so time for a change, now some people have said the 8800GT is good enough for Crysis but is the extra £100 worth it for the GTX, given I would get better FPS and everything.

Next up on the 8800GT I have heard good things about this card, mainly the cost I could get this a week this Wednesday coming easily and not break the bank, but my problem is

    1) Will it run Crysis at high?

    2) Have they fixed the 45% fan issue

    3) What driver issues remain on this card

I do like the GT, I have heard the top end 512MB models are above or damn close to the GTS is this really true with the new G92 series GTS cards:geek:

I ask because with my Q6600 and 4GB Corsair XMS2 800 DDR2, on my Abit Ip35pro some people have broken the hailed glory of 10,000 on 3dmark06, and claim Crysis is running nice.

    Your thoughts please people :D

Can I ask which one you'd recommend? I normally buy from Scan.co.uk

I wouldn't bother even trying to get a graphics card that would run Crysis :) You'll have to wait for a couple of years.

Just go with a 8800GT is my 2 cents.

i would have picked up GT if it were out when i bought my computer. so i'd say go for it!

why only High? i think if you go for GTS, you might just be in the Very High park with a tiny bit tweaking.

    old, yes.

    outdated, no.

it's still the fastest single GPU solution out there!. just look at this forum's 3Dmark leaderboard sticky, 8800GTX is the fastest single solution on there, and out of top 5 single GPU, 8800GTX is the top 4

i think that 8800GT has the better ratio price/performance of the whole Serie 8.

But if you have the money for to buy a 880GTX, and dont have hurry.. i would wait until the 9800GT realase (in theory the first half of april),and with a little bit of look the price of this one would be around $275.00.

With all video card metioned above can run Crysis in high settings, but forgetting the AA filters. With 9800GT despite isnt a GX2 but may handle the high settings of crysis and aa filters in good resolutions.

Get the cheapest 512mb 8800GTS. The 9800GT, 9800GTX etc are all refreshes and all about the same speed as the current cards - there is no point waiting for them. The 8800GT is a great card, but the 8800GTS is so cheap these days, plus it comes with a better stock cooler. :)

Currently I run Crysis with AA on max * i hate being without AA* and most settings on medium, blurr OFF. I have to wait at least a fortnight for the money, if not a little longer sadly, we have a poorly pup right now who needs a trip to the vets * gets card out *

I am thinking down the line of a good XFX 8800GTS , but the my confusion comes in

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=745804

Is a lovely XFX Card. A nice 8800GTS but for the price

    ----

This XFX 8800GTX comes into play

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=519994

    So then I am confused.

Or should I just go for a 8800GT and live happy with the extra power, 1680 by 1050 on Crysis all on high and some AA?

agree with all above, although GTX is fastest, it is way too hot for my likings.
get the cheapest 8800GTS 512MB you can find, performs similar to GTX at 1680x1050 or lower. only problem GTS has is when it comes to super high quality AA, it drops down a tiny bit when you enable super high end AA such as 16xCSAA
